07 Feb 13 - 05:18 AM (#3476662) Subject: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: the lemonade lady Things are looking promising for one of my folk weekends in Hereford on May 11th. Please can you let me know if you'd like to come... I have expenses and would like to cover them. There will be sessions/singarounds, a concert and a ceilidh. It's at a club where there will be food available. Also hard standing for camper vans/caravans and indoor camping. There's no grass for tents, but there are camp sites fairly near by-ish. Loads of public transport/trains etc. This isn't a festival, but I'll have to make charges for the hire of the venue etc. Please only pencil in on your calendar at this stage, this isn't carved in stone yet. 07 Feb 13 - 09:52 PM (#3476921) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: ChanteyLass Lemonade Lady, I feel the same way when nobody comments on threads I start about concerts in Rhode Island. Some of they have several posts--all by me trying to refresh the thread. I keep hoping someone here will come to one of them. |

08 Feb 13 - 03:41 AM (#3476968) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: My guru always said Sal, maybe if you had put the date & location in the Thread title it would help to show people the way? I get to check Mudcat maybe once a day and could easily miss something that wasn't specific enough in the thread title. You're probably right that lots of people use Facebook, but that's a social network, so perhaps people look at it more often. But on the other hand, because I'm not on Facebook *shock horror* I get to miss gossip & information that is on there, so I miss out that way. I know that people enjoy your weekends Sal, you just need to be a littl more patient with Mudcat and refresh your thread from time to time. BTW, you didn't mention where your weekend would be held, so some of our world-wide Catters might not know what you're publicising. We'll be at Tredegar that weekend so wouldn't be able to join you, but know you'll have a Fab Time! Good luck! |

08 Feb 13 - 06:47 AM (#3477033) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: Acorn4 We're booked in for a folk weekend in West Sussex that weekend. The folk diary always starts to get a bit crowded by May. |
08 Feb 13 - 07:03 AM (#3477037) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,Kevin Adams Hope it comes to fruit - it sounds like an excellent plan |
08 Feb 13 - 07:29 AM (#3477049) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST we'll be visiting Herefordshire/Brecon early August. If you do a folk weekend then as well we'll come!! |
08 Feb 13 - 07:47 AM (#3477054) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: RWJ Not sure about that week end but we would be interested if it does not clash |
08 Feb 13 - 08:20 AM (#3477079) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,Myrtle's Cook Yes - any venue details would be really helpful. We hoped to come to a previous one, but unfortunately hospitals got in the way! Keep it on Mudcat! - Left to me I'd remove Facebook from the face of the earth for all the online bullying and misery it brings to young people |
10 Feb 13 - 10:57 AM (#3477891) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: the lemonade lady I have to disagree I'm afraid. Facebook has so much more to offer. When I first posted this thread, I hadn't got the date, venue or plan formulated. It is now, but it looks as though you'll all be elsewhere. I was looking at last years dates and it appears that Tredegar house fest has come forward a week. Sod it! I'll see if I can change the date. Not a lot of point me putting on an event if none of you will be there. Watch this space, I suppose. Good thing I've not gone to press. |
11 Feb 13 - 05:21 AM (#3478180) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,Square The Circle Sal, totally agree about facebook, as you know we use it quite a lot in Newport Club and if you can move the date away from Tredgegar House we would love to come as we know you always put on a good weekend. |
12 Feb 13 - 04:50 AM (#3478537) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,Mikey Cat amongst the pigeons: a lot of people avoid Facebook like the plague. As Hils suggested earlier, the Subject title should have been clearer if a response was expected: 'one of Sally's Folk Weekends' suggested (to me) that someone was querying an event from the past. I saw the heading and didn't bother opening it because of that. BTW: I won't touch Facebook. Also BTW: A do in Hereford on the weekend of 11th May sounds like a blast - count me in. And another thing: why not renew the message by posting a completely fresh thread with a more appropriate title. Remember A.I.D.A. - look it up. Good luck with this, I hope it happens. M PS will there be good beer? |
12 Feb 13 - 05:14 AM (#3478550) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: John J Just spotted this. Agree with previous poster absolutely. Further to using aida, why not PM members that you know may be interested. Max publicity for max response, min publicity for....well, you get it I'm sure. Please put me down for 11th May. Hereford's a lovely city and I would dearly like an excuse to go back, especially if there's music & singing. JJ PS: PS is an excellent marketing tool...and marketing is what you're doing, even if you're still at the market-research stage. PPS: My fingers (and other bits) are crossed that this goes ahead. |

13 Feb 13 - 06:01 AM (#3478952) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: the lemonade lady Yes... The news is it's probably going to be in October now. Tredegar house is such a nice festival, and I wouldn't want to compete... I might pop down myself anyway. The rest of the year will be the lemonade season, and hopefully, if we have a summer, I'll be busy. I'm afraid I will put more publicity on Facebook, but will pop in here from time to time. I've had problems here, and I also don't like the way things can't be corrected on this site. I can't change the title of this thread, and there's no point starting another. Maybe I will nearer the time. Facebook is so much more user friendly, adding photos to threads etc., sorry guys. Sal :-) |
13 Feb 13 - 06:57 AM (#3478977) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,chris using just facebook assumes that everyone who might be interested will know that the info will be on facebook - and will know what name to look for in facebook. I think you need both mudcat and facebook - maybe put a clicky on mudcat to take readers to your facebook chris |
13 Feb 13 - 09:32 AM (#3479034) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: GUEST,John J If you want to change something on Mudcat just contact Max - he's a busy lad but is very helpful and I'm sure he'd be delighted to help. Oh, and what Chris just said. JJ |
13 Feb 13 - 12:15 PM (#3479081) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: John MacKenzie Facebook is great for just this purpose. Nobody's forcing anyone, to join in the other silly things, that go on there. Set you page up correctly, and you get very little hassle. Even Max has a Facebook page! |
14 Feb 13 - 02:35 PM (#3479661) Subject: RE: Music:one of Sally's Folk Weekends From: John MacKenzie Another thought. I speak to folks on Facebook, whom I used to speak to on here. Only they don't visit Mudflap any more! |
