From: GUEST,Hootenanny As great as Robert Johnson was he was just a link in the chain, his influences have been well documented on disc. There were many great bluesmen in the past that never got as much hype as Robert. Mention blues to many people and if they can come up with any real blues musician's name it will be Robert Johnson thanks to latter day rock players. MJH is very popular around here and I know that at least one Mudcatter - Jerry Rasmussen - saw him at the Gaslight café. He was definitely a blues musician, but he was not just a blues player. You can hear folk, gospel and ragtime in his playing as well. I only know a couple of cuts from Scrapper Blackwell, so I won't argue. Bert Jansch had the ability to put an astonishing number of influences together though! |
