Trumpeter with Chris Barber for 50 years, died at 80 after only retiring 2 years ago. Obits in all the British broadsheets but full tribute, photos, messages on Chris Barber website He also played piano on Lonnie's Diggin' my potatoes.

I am glad to have been able to listen to him live & on records for the last 50 years.

He was a great player - full of spirit and invention. I loved his work with the Barber band all those years ago. RIP.

I was but a lad way back in the mists of antiquity, well 50 years ago, and I was listening to an EP of the Barber Band which I had just bought.
On it was Ottilie Patterson singing St Louis Blues which had a trumpet obbligato played by Pat Halcox which made the hair on my arms stand up. It was then I realised the power of music and I have never looked back

I met him a couple of times in the 60s. A very nice man and a wonderful musician.
RIP Mr. Halcox
