BS: Muskrats???

Hey, I've seen 'um now and then over the years but seems that one has decided that our pond is his/her new home...

Only one that we know of...

Should we trap it and take him/her off to someone else's property???

Should we shoot it and cook it up???

Should we just give it a name and co-exist???

Plus, any other ideas or facts about these critters???

B~

I knew nuffin' about muskrats & now I know more.

And look forward to the experiences of those who share their environment!

Their pelts are salable and yes, they are edible.

Me? I'd co-exist UNLESS it is digging its home in a wall of a pond. Rodent holes -- muskrats, beaver, and others -- can seriously weaken a levee or earthen dam or bank. Of course, you might prefer this option.

There might be two of them.

You need to check closely as it might be nice, ya' know? They might be there in muskrat candlelight, doin' the town and doin' it right. In the evenin' it's pretty pleasin'. Yeah, they're Muskrat Susie and Muskrat Sam, doin' the jitterbug out in muskrat land. And they shimmy. And Sammy's so skinny. And they whirl and they twirl and they tango. They're singin' and jingin' the jango. They're floatin' like the heavens above and it looks like muskrat love.

Yeah, you need to check on that..............

Down here in South New Jersey, a few of our fire departments have an annual muskrat dinner ( in addition to fish frys, oyster roasts, chicken and bisquit suppers, etc.).
Never been to one but I hear they are quite tasty.
Bound to be some cooking advice on google somewhere!
