19 Mar 13 - 09:08 AM (#3492126) Subject: RE: Obit: Capt. Peacock, are you free? From: Bill D I'm not sure I loved the show, but it was fascinating in an odd sort of way. We get PBS re-runs every weekday afternoon. Capt. Peacock was seldom THE main story, but he was always involved and his formality kept the rest of them from being totally silly. |

19 Mar 13 - 04:07 PM (#3492311) Subject: RE: Obit: Capt. Peacock, are you free? From: catspaw49 I always enjoyed the show, a really good Britcom. Frank Thornton played a pivotal role but it was truly a fine cast that even survived a few changes over the years. Only Nicolas Smith and Mike Berry are left of the main cast members and only Smith was there at the beginning. How very sad. That's a product of TV, a bit of a price you pay as time passes. True of movies, sports, and life in general I suppose, but somehow those who are in your home every night take on a bit of something different. Frank Thornton was a fine actor and played the role well. Without his character and the fine job he did, AYBS would have been a flash in the pan. Spaw |

Peacock, are you free? -Frank Thornton From: Big Al Whittle Saw him as Duncan opposite Nicol Williamson and helen Mirren in Stratford - the Scottish play. years ago. He was pretty damn good. I imagine Captain Peacock took about a tenth of his talent. It funny how life never lets the world enjoy the best of us, and what we have to offer. |

It doesn't matter how many times I see the episodes, they are still better than almost anything else on TV. I especially enjoy the musical production numbers which I imagine were done in the final episode of each season. He was part of an incredible ensemble cast. |
