Hello Everyone

this is to announce the first Sussex Spring Sing, happening this May Day Monday, May 6th, at The Abergavenny, Rodmell, near Lewes, East Sussex.

It will be an all-day-all-evening session - music starts at 3pm - hosted by myself (Elle Osborne) and friends. We're looking forward to having as many people as the pub can hold, to make it a glorious day of social singing - all welcome to give a song, join in or just listen.

For those who'd like a taster / refresher of some of the great chorus songs, there will be 3 workshops in the weeks leading up to May Day, plus one hour-long workshop on the day before the session.

Details of all this, plus accommodation etc, are at springsing.co.uk

Hope you can come!

This sounds excellent. If people are coming earlier in the day they might enjoy The Knots of May's Garland Day in Lewes beforehand. Here's a video of some of the dancing a couple of years ago. The day begins in the Gun Garden of Lewes Castle, with children's flower garlands being admired and paraded. Chanctonbury Ring Morris Men also take part.

Thanks Valmai,

we timed the Spring Sing to fit in with Garland Day, so please do all come along for a great celebratory day.

Incidentally, the host pub, The Abergavenny in Rodmell village, is a lovely 17th century coaching house, and the landlords are right behind folk music - the singaround will be in the heart of the pub, in the main bar (we're aiming for a Volunteer-at-Sidmouth kind of glorious madness!), and there'll be an even wider range of ales than they usually have, plus food all day.

Rodmell is a historic village in the heart of the South Downs, and there are B&Bs in the village, plus a campsite 3 miles away for those wishing to come from further afield. All the details at springsing.co.uk

And here's a link to a very useful site for Lewes area bed and breakfast places.

This looks wonderful!
The all-day Sussex singarounds in January are always full of fantastic singers and choruses - I'm thrilled to hear there's another one now to sustain us!
Very fond memories of when they were at The Ram in Firle - so full you had to pass your glass along the singers, as you couldn't get to the bar!

This is certainly going to be good. A rather splendid new Youth Hostel is opening at Itford Farm, which will be very convenient for the event.

KC, we've already booked the Royal Oak at Barcombe for the January sing next year: it's always on the third Saturday of January, so the next one will be on January 18th. 2014.

Spring has arrived in Sussex, everyone!

We're sure the fine weather will remain (or return!) in time for our lovely all-day Spring singaround on May Day.

Everything is in place - Lucie the landlady has got some fine ales and cider on special order for us - and the workshop places are booking up fast.

See springsing.co.uk for details - we hope to see you there.

Hello Everyone

taxi from Lewes train station is about £8; from Newhaven it's about £10, Dave. Lifts back are easily arranged, once you're here, of course.

Unfortunately the village buses aren't running because it's a public holiday.

Any others on the list here planning on coming? If so, could you consider sharing lifts / taxi?

Thanks
Elle

The hawthorn is in bloom; Kent cider is on tap; the summer is a-coming in...

It's looking like it will be a busy day at the Spring Sing on Monday.

Still some places on the workshop at 12mid-day, before the session - details here

Looking forward to it,
Elle
