BS: Silly book titles.

Something reminded me today, of the silly book titles we used to pass around amongst ourselves, in my adolescence.

The Flood in the Lavatory by I P Squint

The Nail in the Bannister by R Stornaway

The Hole in the Bed       by Mr Completely.

etc etc.

The stop in the desert by __________ ____

The rooster's mistake by _____ ____

Treasure in the outhouse by I. P. Nichols

Rusty bedsprings by I. P. Knightly

aaaaarrgh! There were dozens more, which, mercifully, I have forgotten.
Thanks for the memories, John. My mother got a kick out of these.

"The Tiger's Revenge" is by far the best of these.

Perhaps a bit of a drift: but I have always been delighted to hzave learned from a trainee teacher that a main course textbook was a History Of British Education by one Dr Birchenough.

And I have googled & it is true - I wasn't making it up ~~

History of elementary education in England and Wales from 1800.

... Author: Birchenough, Charles,

Can't help wondering BTW if any train of thought might conceivably have led from my first to my second post just above...

Birchenough ~ that's worth the thread-drift. Weirdly enough, I start to wonder f that surname isn't an Anglicisation (or simply cognate with similar €pean name).

"Klau mich" (pinch me) was a book title in Germany some decades ago. The sales were by far not as good as the circulation was.
