RadioProgrm:My Top200 Albums of All Time

22 Apr 13 - 12:06 AM (#3506906)
Subject: RadioProgrm:My Top200 Albums of All Time
From: GUEST,Larry Saidman

Hi folks. Peach City Radio in Penticton (B.C.)is trying to get a broadcast license, but in the mean time we're posting programs on our website: peachcityradio.org.

I just finished loading my first program of "Larry Saidman's Top 200 Albums Of All Time".   Rather than an ego trip, the purpose of this is mainly to allow me to play music that I've come to love over the years.   And I love lists.....even though sometimes they do seem a bit arbitrary.

The only thing I guarantee is that this top 200 list will have absolutely no similarity to anybody else's.

I don't know how to actually post a link on mudcat (anybody want to tell me).....as if anybody's interested I could post the program link everytime I do a new one, which will be every Sunday. We'll probably get to #1....maybe sometime in 2014.

Certainly feedback is welcome.   I'm not so much interested in comments about what 'should' be on the list (that would be endless), but discussions about what *is* there.....and certainly any corrections to mistakes I've made, expansions, inspirations for new links (a lot of my favourite music is in the 'folk', and 'singer-songwriter'genres).

http://peachcityradio.org/programs/music/larrysaidmantop200.php

You may want to listen to some of the other great programs on peachcityradio.org.

Thanks.

Subject: RE: RadioProgrm:My Top200 Albums of All Time
From: Larry The Radio Guy

Hi folks. In a few weeks time (after a couple programs of 'special guests' we'll be doing the Top 50.

Here is my list so far----from albums rated #51 to 200.   Lots of 'folk oriented' material.

I don't expect anybody to agree with many of my selections.....but one or two albums might really excite certain 'fans' of some very obscure artists.

You can listen to the programs through my Programs On Demand page (http://www.peachcityradio.org/programs/music/larrysaidmantop200.php), or on the live stream (peachcityradio.org)...aired Saturdays at 11PM, and repeated Sundays 3A.M., Mondays 11PM, and Tuesdays at 5PM.

*shaking my head*

I don't see how anyone with such eclectic tastes can ever choose anything as favorites... much less rank them in any way.

I am 93.8532% trad folk, and I'd be hard put to make a list.

Perhaps I could make a list, but next day I could make another, totally different list.

Elmore, my list kind of varies from day to day, too......but there are a few albums I told myself are some of the best ever made, so if one day I hear it and say 'that's not so hot'.....I just ignore it.

I still don't know what is Number 1.....although I have a few possible choices. Whatever it is I know I'll regret it.

Hell, even now I regret choosing a few of those.   And I still keep thinking of others I should have put on there.   And others I already played (like The Everly Brothers Roots lp) that should be near the top.

And Bill D....I can identify with you shaking your head.
This list was just an excuse for me to do a radio show playing music I really liked......and trying to cajole people to listen (nobody ever did when most of these albums were relatively 'new').

I'd love to see your top 10 (or so) list of mostly traditional folk. Every few programs I have a special guest doing their 'top 10'....so Bill, if you're ever in Penticton B.C., you're invited to be one of them.
