Hi everyone,

Can anyone help me with the name of the composer and a bit about when this tune was composed? Thanks so much.

Bob

Any relation to the poem, "The Colored Soldiers," by Paul Laurence Dunbar? 1913.

......................
Then distress fell on the nation,
And the flag was drooping low;
Should the dust pollute your banner?
No! the nation shouted, No!
So when War, in savage triumph,
Spread abroad his funeral pall--
Then you called the colored soldiers,
And they answered to your call.

No relation to the tune, but a very nice poem, indeed. Thanks Q.

I found the tune, listed as traditional, but no information on origin.

Joanie Madden told me that this tune is about 300 years old. Still looking for any good information about who wrote it, if there were ever words to it, etc. Thanks!!!
