So very sad to hear that Mike Canavan has passed away. Many condolences to his wife Pat and family.
Mike was a magical and very gifted performer of his own and other's songs; a great exponent of folk music, song and dance (as a fine Ceili dance caller and presenter). Fare to say he was a legend certainly on England's North West folk scene going way back to the days of the Ring 'o' Bells, the Red Lion and St Clares. We will truly miss him but he will live on through his songs e.g The Knocker Upper Man, Don't Bring That In Here lad, A Pint of John Willie Lees. RIP Mile.

Very sad indeed. A wonderful song writer and great performer. Let's not forget his calling skills with Legplatters and the (in)famous Italian basket weavers dance! If anyone gets more details let us know.

Condolences from me and Swinton Folk Club

Dave

Oh bugger, what bad news.
Another song from Mike's pen: 'The Middleton Junction Band'.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that I sang 'A Pint of John Willie Lees'.

RIP Mike.

Mikes funeral is on Friday 10th May at 1pm at Radcliffe Crematorium. I think that afterwards they are going to Bury Golf Club. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it as I have a Hospital appointment but I will be there in spirit.

Oh I just found this in the states where i live now Mike was a great inspiration to me as a budding singer and composer. Booked him many time at the star and the farmers arms was totaly influenced how he could bring out feeling in a simple maner as well as expain the folk tradition. Tonite I am sad but Hope tony Hill is ready to catch him on a cloud?

Are there any online recordings? My grandparents used to have a tape... I loved all the songs on it, would love to hear them again
