English concertina player and teacher Miyuki Miura is visiting the UK in June with other Japanese musicians. Come along, share some tunes and hear Miyuki and upright bass player Mao Yamada perform both Japanese songs and original music from the stunning new CD Almandine.

Miyuki is a graduate of Hanover State University of Music in Germany.

For bookings and enquiries please email librarian@concertina.org or call Jeremy Hague on 0776 769 6509.

Lunch is available in the pub from noon onwards.

Event organised by The International Concertina Association
with Lewes Saturday Folk Club and Concertinas Anonymous .

It is not easy to work out what she might sound like from that website.

From Google Translate, it appears to be mostly a blog devoted to poems about restaurants.

Thanks, Dick! I should have said that the event is on Sunday 30th. June.

I will find some links to Miyuki's playing on MySpace and YouTube and put them here. She is very good indeed.

Aha! Here are some links to Miyuki's playing:

Tune 1 Moonstomp

Tune 2

Tune 3

I wish I could find the one called something like 'Dragonflight' - it's unusual and good.

My mistake - the player here is actually Miho Tohmatsu, and very good she is.

This is the proposed timetable for the event:

12.30 meet in the pub for lunch

1.30 introductions

1.45 music exchange - share some dots to play together / party pieces

5.30 Miyuki concert (30-40 mins)

6.15 Goodbyes

And now we have a more detailed timetable:

1.30    Introductions
1.45 - 3.15 Miyuki Part 1 (Japanese songs) + Q&A session about concertina playing and music in Japan + tune swapping
3.15    Coffee / beer
3.35 - 4.45 More tune swapping and if people want to play their 'party pieces'
4.45    short break / beer
5.00 - 5.30   Miyuki Part 2 (Performance of Alamadine composition with double bass player )
5.30- 6.30    Final tunes, photographs etc.

Miyuki and Miho will bring some dots along of Japanese songs we can try out. I also understand that Miho and other members of the Tokyo concertina school, led by Miyuki, have worked up a few pieces to play together.

The event is free, although you will need to buy your own food and drink in the pub.
