28 May 13 - 10:33 AM (#3520021) Subject: Tunes for the Battle of Flodden From: Jack Campin I put together a bunch of Scottish tunes relating to the Battle of Flodden: http://www.campin.me.uk/Music/Flodden.abc I may get round to including the stories behind them, but meanwhile this should be handy for anyone doing a commemoration. I threw in a lot of different versions of The Flowers of the Forest, as that's an unusually variable tune. |

There is also a CD of songs coming out later this year (Greentrax recordings)with the 500th anniversary in mind. I herad Robin Laing sing his song for the occasion a few weeks back, and it will be on the CD. 29 May 13 - 12:43 PM (#3520410) Subject: RE: Tunes for the Battle of Flodden From: Jack Campin I was aiming to collect tunes that had an at-least-halfway-plausible backstory connecting them to the time of the battle - tunes that a re-enactment group might be able to make use of. (Those operatic elaborations of Flowers of the Forest are obviously stretching it). Did I leave any out? Oddly I've never read anyone claiming that Hey Tuttie Tatie had any link to Flodden. Despite the story linking it to Bannockburn, 200 years before. Something doesn't add up there. |
