I wonder how many Yanks follow Canuck politics. Hell, Garge said shortly after he was elected that he was lookin forward to goin ta yer Mexico FIRST as it was the biggest tradin partner of yer US... idiot! Took him years to come to NS to thank Canucks fer what they did durin 9/11 and NO thanks were EVER given fer what Canucks did after Katrina... matter a fact, Canucks, first on the scene with the navy (??? WTF was that), were told to load all that food (3,000,000 MREs) back in the boat on accounta it might have yer Canuck Mad Cows in it... first on the scene with special rescue teams from BC??? Garge couldn't say thanks? If the Pres don't know shit about Canucks, what does Joe Yank know? It all seems very odd to some Canucks like me as I am sittin here in the backwaters of the fly infested bog country of nb.ca.

No, it don't matter what incited me to post this so don't ask. The proof is in the proof and it's a proof because it's proven. (Canucks understand that.)

I lived down there for 10 years, gnu, and the average American is as unaware of Canadian politics as he is of Dutch or Bolivian or Martian politics. They are vaguely aware Canada exists...plus a few odd bits of vital knowledge like "They all speak French up there, and their police are mounties that ride horses and rescue girls who are tied down on the railroad tracks by cape-wearing fiends with pencil-thin mustaches." (grin)

Interesting that you posted this gnu ... I was talking on the phone to my wife's cousin last night in California ... they are getting fed up with all that is currently happening in the U.S. ... left/right, republican/Democrat, Obama and whomever it is on the other side of the politikal spectrum and all the spin, spin, spin .. they are seriously considering moving to Canada (as she was born in Canada and moved to the U.S. when she was an infant)and living out their retirement here .. anyway she was complaining that they never hear anything about Canada in the news, in fact never hear anything about Canada at all ... to the average American the U.S. is the centre of the universe so who really gives a rat's ass about what else exists outside of the country ... unless of course there are natural resources that they desperately want.

Everything - and more - that you have said about the USA is true. But there is a whole lot more to this country and its people than you seem aware of. And I DO mean everyone of you who has posted to this point.

Just for thought: If you cast a net around you comprising the land area of the size that the US inhabits, I think you would find that every single one of your complaints is well represented in that net. Excepting Canada, of course. In its case, one would have to draw the net considerably tighter- believe me, you Canadians have your crazies too.

Perhaps in Alaska we are more aware of Canada than in most of the states 'down south'.

Most people in North Carolina know almost nothing about Virginia. This is not a place where Geography is a regular topic of discussion.

Hmmm... poor wording... I wonder "IF many follow" might have been better. Then again, if one considers how few Canucks follow Canuck politics and add to that the fact that the US, in general, influences Canada far more the opposite due to sheer numbers, I assume it would be very few on the whole.

Good points by all above. Thanks.

Has it occurred to you that, perhaps, the reason most US citizens are blissfully unaware of Canadian politics is that you guys are doing it right? You don't rattle swords. You don't imprison 10% of your minority male population. You provide your citizens with guaranteed health care and you don't spy on them for no reason. You are a model for how a country should be run. If you want US citizens to pay attention to you, you're going to have to fuck up every now and then. Commit some atrocities. Have a few scandals. Invade Liechtenstein for dubious reason. You're not going to get any air time on Fox News by being the quiet kid on the second row. You have to be the loud-mouthed asshole in the back of the classroom.

Anyone with an internet connection can find out all they need to know and more about Canada short of coming here to live, provided they have the will.

Public education on international themes is sadly lacking everywhere, perhaps especially in the States, I can't say, except it appears from here that they could do a lot better. It seems to me that the disparity between educated and uneducated, informed and uninformed, is akin to the disparity between rich and poor, ie, it gets wider all the time in a creeping cancer like self destructive infestation. Redirect some of the war fund, and taxes, to public education (and heath care) and maybe ignorance can be controlled, if not entirely eradicated.

If this was high school student council, someone would have told the US to get over themselves already and get on with the greater good.

Peace, Mooh.

Hmmm...interesting thoughts. Bunch of folks around here said that they'd move to Canada if "socialized medicine" ever passed in the US, but they're still here for some reason.

I follow Canadian politics and news, but then I also read Al-Jazaira online. I also try to follow Aussie news, French and Italian news (like anybody can!), Irish news, British news, Korean news, Japanese news, et-bloody-cetera.

All true Americans should follow Canadian news. If they don't, how will they know how the Giant Plot To Take Over The Canadian Oil Fields is going? How will they know if the Suck-Ups To America have been elected or if we should start Operation Invade Canada Again?

We need not fight. Slowly we are taking over, our special operations groups, code named "Rangers", "Blackhawks" and others too secret to mention, are winning Canadian hearts and minds. Rather, they are taking away such Canadiana as the Stanley Cup, Stanley's cup, and cod pieces.

Is that tartar sauce on your codpiece or are you just glad you live close to the border?

MAybe people in the USA have enough of their own news to be concerned about. Maybe they just do not have the energy to cope with anyone else's. OR maybe they do not care about the next door neighbours until they step on their daffodils.

Maybe some of us care about not only Canada, but Mexico and other countries.

And, that affects a lotta people in The Boston States, with which we in Atlantic Canada share a kinship. Hey, lace up er get off the ice eh?
