12 Jun 13 - 11:30 PM (#3525863) Subject: June Boston Area (MIT) Chantey Sing From: Trad Folkie After a 2 month hiatus, the Boston Area (MIT) Chantey Sings has a new home. For the next two years most sings will be held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at the USS Constitution Museum in the Boston National Historical Park's Charlestown Navy Yard site. The Charlestown Navy Yard is only 10 minutes away from the Bunker Hill Monument. Directions to the sing may be found on the USS Constitution Museum's web site: http://www.ussconstitutionmuseum.org/visit/directions-parking. Please note: Charlestown will celebrate the 238th anniversary of the battle of Bunker Hill on the same day as our June sing. There will be the 45th annual Battle of Bunker Hill 8K Road Race, starting at 9:15, to benefit the local Boys and Girls Club. The race begins and ends at the Charlestown Navy Yard. There will also be a parade starting at 12:30 (some of the marching units will be forming in the Navy Yard). It is suggested that you come early to enjoy all the patriotic festivities and highly recommended that you use public transportation, if just part of the way, as some of the area streets may be closed for the events and parking will be tight. North Station, (Green, Orange & commuter lines) is only a 15 minute walk, the 93 bus from Downtown Crossing or Sullivan Square runs close by, and the water shuttle from NE Aquarium (Blue Line) lands right behind the Museum. |

Now that we are so far from Mary Chung's, will there continue to be a subset who eat together afterward, and if so, where? 2. I am gratified at the evidence that there are two other Mudcatters in the Boston area, tho they choose to remain anonymous, perhaps for their own protection. I have read the Mudcat for many years, and have seen no evidence of such a presence. I suppose that when two or three are gathered together in its name, the Mudcat is there. But are there any others? And if not, why not? |

With Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Boston College, and Northeastern U all within about a five mile radius and each having multi-thousand students, a great many activities, even if "community sponsored," are more closely associated for those at a given school with a sponsored/authorized club or activity on their own campus. While there almost certainly are a number of people in the area who may be aware of mudcat, and may participate here, it would seem unlikely that many of them would speak about "Boston activities" other than in terms of how they are applicable to their more local groups/organizations. (Fifty years ago one of those schools claimed athletic teams in 124 sports, and only added football (American) about 20 years ago. Music, drama, art, history, etc are additional opportunities that are no less active.) In other words, mudcatters in that area may have a very much stronger identification with other organizations than with the 'cat - although it would be interesting for the rest of us to know them for what they are ... and welcome them here.
