The one I most remember is the first song I ever heard by him...in 1961. Turn On Your Lovelight. I'm surprised that more Mudcatters aren't interested in this thread. |
24 Jun 13 - 02:24 PM (#3529868) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: Will Fly Well, perhaps when the US time zone kicks in, there'll be a bit more interest! :-) It's possible, of course, that the musical style of Bobby Bland falls in between various stools - blues, folk, etc. - that doesn't engage some folks on this forum. But who cares - he was a wonderful performer - and we love him! |

24 Jun 13 - 07:35 PM (#3529967) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: GUEST,bankley RIP Mister Bland. Mr. Voice. I had the great fortune of hearing him once at a blues fest in Toronto years ago. There were some great performances that day. Buddy Guy & Junior Wells, James Cotton. The Johnny Otis Revue, Harvey Mandel, Roy Buchanan . We played last. man, I was intimidated by these cats. Bobby Bland and Roy stood out the most for me. Good times |

24 Jun 13 - 07:47 PM (#3529974) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: Ron Davies A great blues singer. But something is wrong in the title, it appears. Article says he was 83. But 1920- 2013 would make him 93. I suspect the article is correct. |
24 Jun 13 - 08:02 PM (#3529983) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: Larry The Radio Guy I'm pretty sure that 1920 is a typo---according his biography he was born in 1930. I'm not sure who put those dates up there; I just put it as "obit: Bobby Blue Bland". |

24 Jun 13 - 10:25 PM (#3530021) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: Janie I was lucky to see him perform several times over a number of years. One of the best shows was an outdoor venue in Ohio where he and Ray Charles were billed back-to-back and performed a song or two together. Rest in Peace, BBB. |

25 Jun 13 - 10:40 AM (#3530194) Subject: RE: Obit: Bobby Blue Bland (1920-2013) From: GUEST,Dave Illingworth I have loved his records since the late fifties. Marvellous to see him in Hammersmith (London) in the early eighties. He was never as universally popular as others in the soul/blues style, but certainly deserved to be. |
