Here is a review of the festivals that I have been to so far this year around NW England

First one was the Shanty festival, Easter, at Ellesmere port
My first visit to this one and I listened to some good artists that I had not seen before.
Well worth the admission price of £6.50.
The only down side was the weather, it was bloomin cold. So if you go next year watch the weather and wrap up well.
Saw Anna Shannon, Les Sullivan to name just a few.

Next Festival was Edale. This is only a small festival held in a field near the railway station. There were some good artists on, but what lets Edale down is that the breaks between artists are far too long and you are stood around as long as 30 minutes + in some cases whilst they do a change over. Also, although they say it starts at 10.30 nothing happens until 12.00 and then finishes at about 7.00.
Some good artists like Bella Hardy, pity that the above let it down.
I hope that Edale will improve, as it is an early festival in the area.

Then Chester festival at Kelsall. Well you just cannot fault Chester committee, they have it off to a tee. Never fails to impress me with some of the best and biggest names in the folk world.
If you have not been; Go in 2014 you won't regret it.

The next one was Folk on the Coast at Ellesmere port.
This one is getting much better at it's new venue.
Plenty of good artists appearing (Big Names) and well planned.
It deserves to get a bigger audience for the main concerts.

Tried Middlewich again just for Saturday afternoon, whilst a lot of it is free, sorry Mark, but it just doesn't pack the punch of the previous two.

That's it for now.
I shall definitely be going to Fylde in September.
