Natures World Folk Festival venue change

Arrangements for the free folk festival in Middlesbrough that used to be held in Nature's World, Acklam, Middlesbrough have had to be changed. Sadly, Nature's World went into administration in January. The festival is now taking place in the Dorman's Club, Oxford Road, Middlesbrough, Saturday 13th July, Sunday 14th July, from noon till 5.30 pm. Bar available. Mix of concert performances, workshops and singaround. A great little festival - and it's free!!! Please join us at the weekend.

Diane Taylor

Thanks for posting this, Diane. You're a star! (And you beat me to it...!)

Yes, there's plenty of information in this para from the latest edition of the famous Folk Roundabout magazine (not online, unfortunately).
"Yes, the Folk Festival WILL still be happening, but (due to the recent closure of the Nature's World complex) at a new venue, THE DORMAN'S CLUB, OXFORD RD., LINTHORPE, MIDDLESBROUGH TS5 5DT.
It's a fantastic venue – easily accessible from the main arterial routes (A19, etc) and very, very capacious! Its multi-acre site contains a large level grass area which will house an outdoor stage much like the Nature's World one, with PA for gentle enhancement. There's also a massive choice of indoor function rooms, and plenty of space for workshops and singaround etc, as well as a bar. There will be kids' facilities too, and a craft fair etc on site, and car parking is both plentiful and accessible.
As a trial run, the festival format will stay virtually the same as in previous years, with a main-stage afternoon (12 noon to roughly 5.30 pm) concert on each day plus indoor activities, all with free admission as before. The festival has always had a reputation for being one of the friendliest and most accommodating of the season, with an appreciative audience and a big welcome..."
All artists are performing for free, and they comprise not only artists from the local region (Teesside, Tyneside, Co Durham, Cleveland) but also many travelling from a greater distance (York, Dronfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Rotherham; East, West and North Yorkshire etc.). Some have returned year after year to play! As is customary, each of the named acts will perform a 15-minute set. The full running order etc is given in the 32-page programme which will be on sale at the event itself, but I can supply more exact details if needed.
Here's the full list of artists appearing over the two afternoons, as confirmed last week and bang up to date (and in alphabetical order!). David Arnott, Bethany Aveyard, Peter Aveyard, The Band With No Name,
Pete Betts, John & Caroline Bushby, Malcolm Bushby, Maggie Camp,
Sarah Dean, Kay De'Ath, Fool's Gold, Bob Fortune, FOSS, Susie Fox, The Grey Picker, Shaun Hutchison, jiva, JustUs KitchyRetro,
David Kidman, Trevor Lister, Trish McLean & Ian Wright, New Pippin's Fancy, New Prairie Home Companions, Will Nicholson, Paul Pearson, Paula Ryan, Chris Scarlett, Carol Southwell, John Storey, David Stych, David Swann, Silva & The Wyrd Wych, Diane Taylor, Ian Tyzack, Eddie Walker, Welsh Geoff, Mike Weston, Heather Woodhead & Alison Battye, Michael Woods, and John Wrightson & Joan Edmundson.
Main-stage concert times: 1200 to 1730 both Saturday & Sunday. There will also be: workshops (ukulele, bodhran, north-west morris) and a Raffle (proceeds to Teesside Hospice), and possibly some impromptu dance display activities.
Further info from Folk Roundabout editor Trevor Lister at email --trevorl(at)ntlworld.com -- or else send me a PM.
Enjoy!!!

Festival went very well. Brilliant sunshine - I resemble a pink-armed lobster. Lots of good songs and music. Thank you to everyone involved with putting it on!

Agreed, Diane - and you did a grand job yourself helping us out!
Thanks again Madame Salmon - and to all the artists who performed and made it such a great weekend.
All that was missing was an ice-cream van - it would've made a fortune!!
