23 Jul 13 - 07:33 PM (#3540982) Subject: RE: wrist plate and fiddle playing From: GUEST,Philippa so he did but not the same sort of injury, and there are more ways to adapt technique on guitar (can do barre chords, bottleneck on violin for instance) i read djanjo had serious burns resulting in paralysis of two fingers good side re my point about bottleneck etc is that my fingers shouldnt be affected i believe |

24 Jul 13 - 02:08 PM (#3541279) Subject: RE: wrist plate and fiddle playing From: GUEST,guest - Tracy Guest Philippa, maybe this will help: I've been told that Tommy Jackson, the premier Nashville fiddler in the 50's used a capo on his fiddle at times (check out Ray Price's "You Done me Wrong!) to duplicate the double open string sound of the D and A strings even tho the song was cut in the key of E. That could be expanded to the other 2 open string possibilities (G and D, or A and E). I can imagine using 1 finger at a time for a "single stop" - i.e. one sting noted while the neighbor string rings free. I don't know which finger you'll have working well enough to do that but I wish you all the luck and success you can have with fiddling your way out of fiddler's hell! Keep us informed - we'll be cheering for you. |
24 Jul 13 - 03:10 PM (#3541304) Subject: RE: wrist plate and fiddle playing From: Felipa i think all my fingers will work,Tracey, the problem I expect will be in the bend and reach of the wrist, especially for reaching notes on the the g(low)string and fingering two strings at the same time, maintaing sufficient pressure. maybe vibrato a problem, not that i do much anyway. i can move my fingers at present - though feel some numbness - and was told to do so to reduce swelling and that finger movement would do no harm to my wrist. you need wrists for typing though - i am just using my right hand on computer keyboard |
