27 Jul 13 - 05:01 PM (#3542473) Subject: RE: Obit: J J Cale From: PHJim Last night, my friend Dan Walsh was playing in Campbellford, not too far from where I live, so I decided to go up and see him. He played CRAZY MAMA and AFTER MIDNIGHT and during the break, we sat and talked about how much we admired JJ Cale. I told him how I had bought myself a wahwah pedal and made a slide after hearing CRAZY MAMA in 1970. I received an email from Dan this morning with the sad news about Mr. Cale. I can see the raccoon staring back at me from that old album cover from where I`m sitting right now. |

29 Jul 13 - 09:17 AM (#3543088) Subject: RE: Obit: J J Cale (1938-2013) From: G-Force I've been listening to a bit of his stuff again the last day or so. By all accounts he was something of a perfectionist, obsessive almost, yet he managed to make most of his records sound like they'd been casually laid down between bouts of balls-scratching and slurps from a glass of something tasty. Lovely music. |

29 Jul 13 - 03:23 PM (#3543249) Subject: RE: Obit: J J Cale (1938-2013) From: michaelr I still enjoy J.J. Cale's work. His early records were extremely influential, most notably on Mark Knopfler for the laconic vocal delivery, and of course Eric Clapton, who made whole LPs trying to capture the Tulsa sound. RIP. |
