Sessions in Dublin?

I'll be in Dublin in September, specifically Wednesday the 4th and Tuesday the 10th. Need up-to-date info on where there are good ITM (instrumental) sessions. I seem to remember the Stag, or Stag's Head, being mentioned here, but my search brought up no recent threads.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Don't think there is anything at the Stags Head (Clé Club seems to be on hols and that's mainly singing) but there are sessions most nights at The Cobblestones in Smithfield - pity you'll miss the excellent Tuesday first-of-the-month 'Sessions with the Pipers' there by a day, but isn't that always the way?.
Mixed reports about Hughes' nowadays, not too far away (on the Luas Line - Four Courts).
Several at Temple Bar - not particularly my taste but "chacĂșn......."
Good luck

Yes - Cobblestone is probably best starting point nowadays.

Wednesday

Very easy to find somewhere to play when we went in 2011 and people were very welcoming

Thanks all! Is the storied O'Donoghue's still a good bet?

Last time I was there - only if you consider yourself a tourist.
Same with Doolin, which is a bit like Ascot on Ladies Day, the tourists go there to listen to each other rather than the locals - may as well go to a session at home!

Ah, that's good to know.

Doolin has charm, but we'll give it a miss this time. Looking forward to Miltown!

"Looking forward to Miltown!"
Up to our ***** in music here in Miltown at the moment - around six - eight sessions a week.
Not sure about Monday, if this is still your intended day to be here.

Nice, relaxed non-tourist session in O'Donoghue's on Friday lunchtimes.

We'll hit Miltown on Saturday, Sept. 7, staying at Mary Hughes' B&B. Will have to miss Friday in Dublin as we'll be in Kerry.

Thanks for the info!

In that case, Friel's - next to the bank.
Have a word with Harry Hughes - he's one of the founders of Willie Clancy Summer School.

Friel's is the one that says 'Lynch's' over the door ;-)
