Seems like my cookie's been eaten..... anyway, this is not exactly a lyric, more a short monologue my father used to say when I was small, and I can no only remember bits of it. It is about Harry, and his Hawk, and contains the following lines that I can remember:

'Arry 'ad an 'awk

'Arry put the 'awk in an 'at box

'Arry 'it the 'awk' on the 'ead wiv a 'eavy, 'ard, 'ot, 'ammer

Does this ring any bells with anyone?

It seems as if this poem ought to be in Mr. Punch's Cockney Humour (1910) – but I can't find it there.

My granddad used to recite a variation of this (would have been in the early 1960's but doubtless much older)

'Arry 'ad 'an 'awk
'Arry 'it 'awk on 'ead with 'eavy 'ammer
'Awk 'owled 'orrible

Most of those things turn out to be from music hall songs or routines, but I have no idea where this one's from.

What I remember is,
    Arry ad an awk
    Arry it is awk on the ead wiv an ard ard ammer an urt it orrible
    Now Arry ain’t got no awk
    On day Arrys   muvva says to Arry, “ Arry where’s your awk?”
    Arry answered aughtily “anging on the anger in the all Mum”.
