From: Elmore Amy Fonoroff, among her other interests, was an important and devoted presence in the traditional folk music scene during the late seventies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She worked with the infamous Peter Johnson, and later with the late Robin Blecher to produce some wonderful concerts, especially those that featured performers from the British Isles (Ewan & Peggy, Boys of the Lough etc.,etc,). She was a fan of the Boston Celtics, classical music, and loved her cats. Amy and I conversed via e-mail and telephone for many years, but lost touch in the last few months. She had been disabled by a variety of illnesses. I was about to call her tonight, but was saddened to find that she had passed away on Mar 12. If nobody responds to this thread that's okay. She could spot a fool or a hypocrite a mile away, but once you became her friend you had a friend for life. Didn't know Robin that well, but Robin's mother was an amazing woman who produced a great concert series into the 21st century in memory of Robin. |

If I seem obsessed with this, I guess it's because I feel guilty about losing track of her in the final year of her life. She was the beloved daughter of the late Bernard and Esther (Sosnow) Fonoroff. Born in South Bend, IN, Amy was raised and educated in Lexington, MA, until her later years in high school when the family moved to Poughkeepsie, NY. She attended Boston University until her junior year when she opted to study abroad in Nice, France. Europe held an attraction for her though and rather than return to BU, she made Ireland her home for the next two years. Amy returned to the Boston area, living in Cambridge, Brookline, Lexington, Watertown, and finally Natick for the past five years of her life. Amy worked as a legal secretary in a number of law offices, including the Cambridge offices of Kurt Pressman, whom she had met when he represented students during political protests at BU, and later those of Michael Melford. With her sharp mind and quick wit, Amy became much more than a secretary, and developed lasting friendships with some of the attorneys she worked with. A devotee of folk music, Amy and a friend cofounded Cat's Fiddle Productions, through which they found local venues for musicians from the British Isles. Amy was a classical music aficionado as well, and a particularly rabid Celtics fan – a great example of the broad spectrum of her interests. She was devoted to her cats, had many dear and lasting friendships, and most recently was passionate about following the progress of service dogs and puppies. Although disabled and confined to her home in recent years, Amy reached out to others via Internet and phone, and gave what support she could to friends in need and causes she supported – especially for animals. In addition to her many friends locally, Amy is survived by a sister, Nina Fonoroff of Albuquerque, NM, and her aunt, Ruth Fonoroff of Beachwood, OH. A memorial gathering will be held in the Morse Institute Library, 12 East Central Street, Natick Center, on Saturday, April 20th from 1 – 3p.m. Please join many of Amy's friends in the Liebowitz Room on the library's lower level. From: Anne Lister I'm trying to remember how and when I met Amy - I know I did, and that she was very encouraging of me and my music, so I think it must have been in London before my first visits to the US. I remember a huge warmth and a generous heart. She left an impression, for sure. I'm sad to hear of her passing. |

I worked with Amy (and Robin) when I was a booking agent and they produced many concerts featuring my performers. Amy was also a dear friend. I hadn't seen or spoken to her in years and had actually just gotten back in touch just before she died so I know how you feel, Elmore. She was all heart and I'm sorry for the loss of her. |
