Obit: Roy Abbott (Aus)

It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that our friend Roy Abbott died this morning, after a long and hard fought battle with Oesophageal cancer .

Roy was a long time member of the famed Mucky Duck Bush Band in Perth, Western Australia.

He was a great songwriter, an outstanding musician, a lovely man and a good friend,

I have no further details at this time but we are going to see his wife, Pauline, tomorrow and should be able to let you know something more after that.

He will be sadly missed.

I never saw him but his song And When They Dance has become a firm favourite at our club HaverFolk in the UK. We'll sing it in his memory on Wednesday. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

That's a lovely gesture John, and thank you Jennie for your post.

I've been looking for a clip of "And when they danced" and found this one by Wongawilli.

And When They Danced

Could I ask you to also post your comments on Roy's Facebook Page

It would be nice for his wife Pauline to see them.

Hi folks
Great shock to hear the news. One of his neighbours where he lived sent me the message this morning. We only met Roy a couple of times but it was a great pleasure, and especially to hear him sing. He was a great song crafter. Wongawilli is indebted to Roy's craft with his beautiful song And When They Dance, which we have taken around the world and Australia. We'll be certainly singing and toasting his contribution to the Australian folk music scene at our next couple of festivals over here. Our deepest condolences for Pauline and the family.

We went to visit Pauline this morning, and I passed on your condolences to her.
Roy didn't want a funeral so had a "non attended cremation" today.

We will try to put together a concert as a celebration of his life, hopefully in November.

I'll keep you posted as to the details (for those of you who will be in or around Perth WA then.

Cheers
