Les Barker imortalised a song/tune with 'Custard Creams'.   I heard the original? 'Jack o'Dreams at Bridlington Folk Club some years ago.   Could anyone tell me the title of the music behind these songs?

Many Thanks,

Ed

Could the song you are asking about be "John O' Dreams"? There are quite a few versions of this on youtube. Here is one link.

John O' Dreams

"John o' Dreams" was written by Bill Caddick and the music is adapted from Tchaikovsky. I don't know what piece, but someone else likely will.

In this previous thread Origins: John o' Dreams, Joe Offer said the music was "adapted from Symphony No. 6, Pathetique".

Hasn't the amazing Mr Barker produced "Ron of Dreams" as well? About John's lesser-known brother? Equally hilarious and worthy of note. Good old Pyotr Ilyich being inspirational again..
Sorry, I haven't any further info than this.

interestingly there are youtube videos of Caddick playing this on slide mandola which affects the tune quite a lot in the original.

He used to say, modestly, "This was written by me and Tchaikovsky" ... The instrument is a Portuguese "guitarra ingleses" -- "English guitar".

It was a song I used to do regularly. Many years ago, I had to do a short notice gig with a pianist friend of mine who turned up with the dots to the Pathetique. I can assure you that Bill Caddick's words don't exactly fit the original tune so, at best, it must be treated as an approximation.
