11 Nov 99 - 08:12 PM (#134819) Subject: A Match Made in Heaven From: Knicke I'm a fiddler (on the side, that is), and just started dating the handsomest banjo player I'VE ever seen in my life. Looking for some spare, sparse old tunes to play together... Any suggestions, comments? Anybody got specific opinions or stories about musical courtships? I'm in a mushy mood, and all ears. |

If it's Appalachian fiddle you play, try some of the old modal tunes (like the ones Betty Vornbrock plays on her Wolves in the Wood CD) which are "spare and sparse". If you are paper-trained, try some of the good ones out of Fiddlers Fakebook. And for sweetness try some of Carolan's best (Sheebeg and Sheemore, Fanny Power, Morgan Megan) Etc. Have fun |

What are some songs you like that you could do instrumentals of together? Devil in the Garden would be fun. Ask Sandy or Caroline Paton of Folk Legacy Records to tell you about musical courtship. Sandy posted their story on a thread somewhere this summer. They've been at it since the 50's. Oh, and my dad, who is still pickin' a banjo at 82 is darned handsome and damn cute, Spaw!**BG** |
