12 Nov 99 - 10:01 PM (#135321) Subject: RE: Searching for lyrics... From: Malcolm Douglas I seem to remember having heard some; unfortunately they were all written quite recently, and were very bad. It's a nice tune (not a song, and it's probably wisest to leave it that way! All the best Malcolm |

12 Nov 99 - 10:08 PM (#135325) Subject: RE: Searching for lyrics... From: Áine You're right, MMario, someone did find the lyrics. I'm not vouching for the Irish, but this URL does include a translation (which I'm not vouching for either). However, here 'tis: http://www.dnaco.net/~mobrien/irishptr/iresongs/sibeagsi.html -- Áine |
12 Nov 99 - 10:20 PM (#135333) Subject: RE: Searching for lyrics... From: catspaw49 If we did, I can't locate it. And that's another good reason for using the Lyr.Req with the Song Title or keywords in the thread title. Anybody want to search ALL the threads titled "Searching for Lyrics" or "Lyrics Needed?" Hi Victoria and welcome.....When you are asking the forum for help, its best to use the prefix that you need, such as "Lyr.Req." and either the song title or a keyword of some sort. If you don't get what you need with this thread, start another with as I suggested and you may have better luck! Spaw |
12 Nov 99 - 10:45 PM (#135347) Subject: RE: Searching for lyrics... From: Malcolm Douglas Well, I'm astonished! Are those lyrics really attributable to Carolan? I'd be interested to know. There was a link to "history", but it didn't work. Malcolm |

13 Nov 99 - 01:45 PM (#135536) Subject: RE: Searching for lyrics... From: Bruce O. In Donal O'Sullivan's 'Carolan' he took "Sheebeg and Sheemore" to be Carolan's revison of the "Cuckoo". He also gave an 8 live verse by Carolan to the tune. Elsewhere he notes, in effect, that Carolan was a great composer, a fair player of the harp, and a poor poet. |

There is also a (modern) set of lyrics ( when you hear the wild goose calling, I'll be there) to Carolan's Planxty Irwin, which often follows si beg in a session. |
