Lyr. Add: MEET ME TONIGHT WITH A SMILE
Gussie L. Davis, 1882

I am thinking tonight of the one I love,
And the cottage that I left far away,
And the flowers that bloomed by the old garden gate,
Where the mockingbird sang all the day;
I know that she's waiting and watching for me,
Yes, she's waiting down by the old stile,
Where we often have met in the twilight's sweet hours,
Will she meet me tonight with a smile?

Chorus-
I'm thinking tonight of the one that I love,
And the old trysting place by the stile,
And I anxiously wait for the twilight's sweet hour.
Will she meet me tonight with a smile.

Where the birds warble sweet near the cot by the sea,
And the moonbeams are bright on the shore,
And the nightingale's song echoes down from the tree,
I can hear them as in days of yore;
But now the bright days of my childhood are gone,
Still I think of the old shady aisle,
'Neath the trees where we wandered and whispered sweet words,
There we always would meet with a smile.
