BS: Amazon changed free shipping rule

I was looking around Amazon today and noticed that the free shipping is only available now for orders of $35, not the previous $25. There's a discussion here. I found the item I wanted offered for free shipping by the seller (listed on Amazon, but not shipped by Amazon). Other things will sit in my wish list until I can put an order together over $35.

Forgot to mention - I'm in the USA. Other shoppers might want to check, though.

We buy so much from Amazon; cat litter, Thomas Hardy, TP, Trollope, kitty treats, Dickens, razor blades, that I believe we will continue to get free shipping.

I'm considering adding Amazon Prime, not so much for the shipping (I also let stuff pile up until I have enough for free shipping) but because of the streaming video they offer. I'm comparing a couple of sites before I decide for sure, but I use Amazon enough that I would get my money's worth.

SRS

Amazon enforces slave labor conditions at its shipping centers. Price of slaves must be going up.

No, it doesn't. But it has a hard-working no excuses sort of setup that tends to burn out people. Glassdoor.com reviews Amazon.

Depends on what you think of as slavery

I am closer to agreeing with Ding-Dong than I have ever been.

Yep Thompson, thats what I call slavery. Its the last time I buy anything from Amazon. So much for all the mythology about the land of the free.

Cheers,

Wow... really sobering, horrifying reading.

And it's not just Amazon - it's most (prolly all) of the major online sellers, so refusing to patronize one - or even half a dozen - companies isn't going to have any impact. Makes me not want to order anything online any more...

What's really needed is a campaign for basic humane work standards - like there were/are for dolphin-free tuna, and fair trade coffee and chocolate, etc.

Wow, again. I'm truly appalled.

It's the future. In Apple's sweatshop Chinese factories they install suicide nets. I think the Foxconn factory described below was where they cranked out iphones to meet America's Christmas demand last year. Bunch of suicides after 24-hour shifts, so they installed suicide nets to catch the jumpers:
