Tech: Mudcat slow? - Max, what do you need?

Mudcat loads very slow on my computer (but not my Kindle).I use Firefox as a browser now and had the same problems when I used IE. I've blocked those google adclicks but with no noticable increase in speed.
Any suggestions for increasing my speed here? I don't have problems on other sites.

Thanks, g

Mudcat itself is slow. Been that way for weeks and weeks. I guess Max is doing stuff. Who knows?

For example, it took about 18 seconds to post that at 12:09. It is a real piss-off when I'm trying to post to threads where people are looking for lyrics, etc. It'll get straight sooner or later.

Thanks, Guest. My problem's been going on for months now but it is even slower than it used to be lately.
No complaining here, I love having access to Mudcat resources.I'm just looking for ways to get at them quicker.

Have you done the usual stuff? Clear cookies cache, that kind of thing? (Come to think of it, it has been longer than weeks and weeks.)

Just you keep hanging in.

Joe, why not start another donations thread? Or keep the existing one aboue the line so people can see it.

Well, the banjo/catfish on the main page links to that donations thread. I think we can overdo donation requests and make people sick of us, if we're not careful.
But donations do help. I sent my check this week.

I've donated.

I do find the Mudcat slow, and it helps to right click on a thread and open in a new tab. You can have more than one thread opening or submitting at a time.

I had a tech come out yesterday because my computer was being slow at everything. He recommended Google Chrome over IE 8. I'm trying the Chrome, and while Mudcat is still rather slow, it's better than before.

If you are not using Google Chrome for your browser, give it a try.

Hi

Mudcat has been ve.........ry slow lately.

But today it has speeded up. However I noticed today that I did not have to sign in. Is this intentional ??

Cheers

Something has been fixed in the last couple of days. It had been giving me a spinning menu bar icon after it had apparently finished loading the homepage (FF 3.6) - the progress display said it was trying to load something from Mudcat itself, so I presume some script was blocking. It slowed down the whole browser, but didn't affect other pages. But now the homepage is back to behaving normally.

I've had the impression that the site has been "off for maintenance" about once per week recently, since I occasionally get "offline by operator" or "site not found" errors. In my time zone it's been mostly Sunday/Monday in the wee hours, when few people in the US would be likely to see it.

When everything is working, opening the site and/or a thread sometimes seems to take a little longer, but isn't a problem for me, since I have no schedule or deadlines to meet.

I have had a few cases, when posting, that take me back to the front page, but my post doesn't appear when I reopen the thread. In those few cases I've been able to "Back" and copy my post, refresh, and resubmit successfully. I assume the server is just a little overloaded and I suffered a "collision" with someone else's senseless blather (unlike my very important stuff).

I've got a lot of old worn out stuff that doesn't work like it used to (My ass, my feet, and sometimes parts higher up). Mudcat is still working better than lots of it, so I'm not bothered much with having to work a little with it.

John

Max, can you give us an idea how much we need to get things working reliably?
