09 Dec 13 - 12:09 PM (#3582934) Subject: RE: Dave Van Ronk on NPR From: Mark Ross He was my first influence as a guitar player. I can still play 1/2 the DVR FOLKSINGER LP. Got to know him later in the '60's (my biggest mistake was trying to match him drink for drink). Last time I saw him was here in Eugene, Oregon on what must have been his last tour. It was shortly after 9/11. I was asking him how things were in the Village where he still lived (Dave's attitude was sort of like the elderly lady, a Boston Brahmin, who when asked why she didn't go anyplace replied,"Why should I go anywhere when I'm already there.") When I confessed to Dave that I had never really liked the architecture of the World Trade Center, Dave replied,"Yeah, it was Howard Roark that did it." I treasure the time I got to spend with him, and I still listen to his music on a fairly regular basis. Mark Ross |
