Rikter Guitars - any good?

As a bouzouki player I've often wondered about getting a guitar. The local Scope charity shop is selling Rikter guitars at £55 a pop and I was wondering about getting one to see how I went on the guitar. Broadening my horizons so to speak.

As far as I can tell, the guitar is exactly the same as this one.

Now, I realise that a 55 quid guitar ain't no Sobell and you get what you pay for, but as I'm pretty skint this is the sort of price I can afford and if anyone has one or has paid for one I'd appreciate comments or suggestions of a similar alternative. Please bear in mind an extra £50 is out as I really don't have the money, however difficult that is to believe.

If you want one to learn and find your way around, why not see if anyone is giving one away on your local Freecycle or Freegle. When you move up to a better one (although you might even get a cracker on Freecycle or Freegle), give the first away in the same manner you got it. Help each other and encourage others to do this and keep instruments off the scrapheap.

Ralph.

Stu,

I bought a Ricker guitar from my local Scope shop.

I'm no expert, but would offer the following:

For the price, it's great. However, if you want to go further that a few basic chords, you'll start to notice its limitations.

Thanks for the replies. I looked on Old Grey Wolf's links and the only guitar locally looked like a rebadged … Rikter (or the Rikter is rebadged).

However, I've seen a Fender so might two to part ex it for a Troubadour bouzouki I have.

Thanks again!

iF THIS AINT TOO LATE, i BOUGHT ONE IN WHITE. iTS A FULL SIZE STEEL STRUNG DREADNOUGHT ACOUSTIC. lOOKS GREAT ON ITS STAND IN THE LOUNGE, AND IT PLAYS OKAY TOO. NOT AS GOOD AS A YAMAHA OR CHEAP FENDER BUT AT HALF THE PRICE ITS EXCELLENT. I USE IT FOR MY STUDENTS AND IT WORKS WELL WITH THE NEWCOMERS. A BIT HARSH ON THE FINGERTIPS IF YOU PLAY TOO LONG, AND THE FRET EDGES CAN BE A BIT SHARP. BUT ON THE WHOLE, VERY GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY, AND CERTAINLY BETTER THAN THE ELEVATION CRAP AT THE SAME PRICE

Sufficient for peasants.

Not exactly my Sobell.

Hmm, played one, decided it was of the ilk that stops people wanting to play anymore.
Couple of the comments seem to along the same lines, I'd sell a kidney, and buy a yamaha, much nicer, and a better bang-per-pound.
