Pantomime - what can I sing?

Compliments of the season to all.
I would appreciate your help, Mudcatters. I am performing in an amateur pantomime, Cinderella, taking place in early February. My role (I haven't been typecast) is a male but camp, French beautician who administers to the two ugly sisters.
The director/producer has asked me to sing a song,or part of one, to introduce a scene in my beauty/hair salon and I am struggling to find one. It has to be appropriate to my role and the general profile of my character. It can be from any musical genre - folk, pop, rock, musical, film, etc. and can be risqué, but not filthy - it is a family show! It needs to be in English - I can supply the French accent!

Has anyone got any ideas - I would be so grateful for any help.

Anatole of Paris? as performed by Danny Kaye, slightly topical as a new version of "the secret life of Walter Mitty" has just reached the cinemas.

I `ad that Chris Peacock in my cab the other day. `e `ad all these song books under `is arm and `ad a right puzzled look on `is face.
I said, "What`s up Chris? You `aving difficulty remembering the words of your songs and considering sticking them books up on a stand at your next session?"
`e said, " Nah,Jim. I`ve been cast in our Pantomime as a poncy, queer French `airdresser `oo does for the Ugly Sisters and I`ve been asked to find an appropriate song. It`s not that easy, y`know. `ere!.You and your band do all the songs in them folk clubs. What d`yer reckon?"
I said, "What about "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". Do that with a touch of the old French, that should raise a giggle!!

I think you should dip into the trove of great Franglais songs.

"Mademoiselle from Armentiers, parlez-vous?"
"Alouette, jaunte Alouette"
"Frere Jacque"

You want something people will recognize as "French" immediately.

How about "Keep Young and Beautiful" as sung by Eddie Cantor on the 1934 film "Roman Scandals"

Morrissey - Hairdresser on fire?
One bar from The Barber of Seville as a passing joke
Oh comb all ye faithful
'In Penny Lane there is a barber showing photographs, of every head he's had the pleasure to know.'

I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga, but I think her stuff would be just perfect for Panto! Plus the music is dead simple and her songs easy to sing. You might even get some of the kids singing along. Try this on for size, it's got a perfect chorus for your needs:

Lady Gaga: Fashion

J'adore Vivienne, habillez moi
Gucci, Fendi et Prada
Valentino, Armani too
Merde, I love them Jimmy Choo

Fashion
Put it all on me
Don't you wanna see these clothes on me?
Fashion
Put it all on me
I am anyone you want me to be (X2)

Oh, oh, la la la,
We love designer

I need, some new stilettos
Can't walk, down the street in those
You are, who you wear it's true
A girl's just as hot as the shoes she choose

J'adore Weitzman, habillez moi
Lois, Dolce Gabbana
Alexander McQueen eh ou
Merde, lose those Manolo

No specific song recommendations here, but
since he's to perform his magic on the UGLY
sisters, maybe something about a difficult
or impossible task?

I'd say take a recognisably French song tune, then write your own words to it to fit your role, preferably parodying the original song. e.g La Marseillaise, Frere Jacques, Plaisir D'Amour, Sous les Ponts de Paris, and others suggested above.

A quick thanks to everyone who has contributed ideas - the current favourite is Keep Young and Beautiful - thanks to Doug Chadwick - the song has generally appropriate lyrics, and I can do it in a French accent. Thanks to all once again, but please keep any further ideas coming.

I have heard this song done in a folk club and it seems to work there as to if it's of use to you well that's a different question. The tune is straightforward.

MY PROPER NAME IS CLARENCE
(John "Mitch" Mitchell)

While sitting in a hostelry, alone one Sunday night,
A fella came across to me and asked me for a light,
He offered me a cigarette; he bought me half a beer,
And we were getting friendly when he whispered in my ear.

cho: "My proper name is Clarence, but you can call me Clare,
I wear sexy undies and I peroxide my hair,
My politics are liberal, my outlook's liberal too,
In fact my dear, I'm a little bit queer and I've taken a shine to you."

Well I supped my jar; I left that bar, faster than a scalded cat,
Caught the landlord's eye as I went by and I stopped just for a chat,
I said, "Hey, he's propositioned me. Do you allow that there 'ere?"
Well he didn't get riled, in fact he just smiled and he whispered in my ear.

Well off I did go, to the new disco, to find myself a bride,
Picked up this pearl of a pastry girl, took her for a ride,
In the back of the car, I got so far, then I froze with fear,
When I felt a lump and my heart went thump and a voice whispered in my ear.

Next day at eight, I called my mate, he promised not to tell,
By a quarter to nine the production line, the foreman knew as well,
They called me misses and they blew me kisses, the boss he got to hear,
For me he sent, to the office I went and he whispered in my ear.

I joined the health service, to train to be a nurse,
With stethoscope and fob watch, with pride I fair did burst,
My charge nurse said he'd teach me, the kiss of life technique,
Well first he turned the lights down and when he began to speak, he said,

"My proper name is Clarence, but you can call me Clare,
I wear sexy undies and I peroxide my hair,
My politics are liberal, my outlook's liberal too,
In fact my dear, I'm a little bit queer and I've taken a shine to you.

In fact my dears, thanks for having me here, God bless, good night to you."

Song written by Mitch who hails from Worksop, UK.

One red one...one white one....
And one with a little light on....
Toooo Shooooow uuuuuuuus theeeeeee waaaaaay (barber shop harmony on last by all.)

MAYOR OF BAYSWATER'S DAUGHTER

The Mayor of Bayswater, [1]
He has a lovely daughter,
And the hairs on her dicky-di-doe,
Hang down to her knees.

Leader: And the hairs,
Pack: And the hairs,
Leader: And the hairs,
Pack: And the hairs,
Leader: And the hairs,
Pack: On her dicky-di-doe,
Hang down to her knees.
One black one, one white one,
And one with a bit of shite on,
And the hairs on her dicky-di-doe,
Hang down to her knees.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Lots of "camp" and "inuindo"....for a barber.... the song includes...

If she were my daughter,
I'd have them cut a little shorter.......
And the hairs on her dicky-di-doe,
Hang down to her knees.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Happy new year to you.

Hi

I am likely to sing the following, which, as I have said before I can easily sing in a French accent and is appropriate to introduce a scene in my hair/beauty salon:

Keep Young and Beautiful

Athletics, cosmetics, a weighing machine
Are part of the feminine daily routine
For what?
And oceans of lotions and potions you take
To keep that old something or other awake
Why not?

Even after you grow older baby
You don't have to be a cold baby
Keep young and beautiful
It's your duty to be beautiful
Keep young and beautiful
If you wanna be loved, tada, tada

Don't fail to do your stuff
With a little powder on a puff
Keep young and beautiful
If you wanna be loved

If you're wise exercise all the fat off
Take it off, off of here, off of there
If you're seen anywhere with your hat off
Have a permanent wave in your hair
Take care of all those charms
And you'll always be in someone's arms
Keep young and beautiful
If you wanna be loved
Keep young and beautiful
If you wanna be loved
Keep young and beautiful
If you wanna be loved.
