28 Dec 13 - 07:08 AM (#3587086) Subject: BS: A joyful outing From: Pete Jennings Me and Judi took Bobby the dog to Cannock Chase (Area of Outstanding National Beauty, five minutes from our door) for afternoon walkies on Boxing Day. We parked at the Visitor Centre and, unexpectedly, there were hundreds of people there. Lovely crisp sunny afternoon. There were loads of little kids on brand new bikes. Some quite competent, racing up and down laughing, others concentrating hard while gently falling over every few yards. All closely attended by parents and all wearing those brightly coloured plastic crash helmets so no injuries. Bobby thought it was great, especially the few remotely controlled toy cars he saw (and was about to chase until Judi put him right!). Everyone smiling, great holiday atmosphere. Simply joyful. |

My city has too much ice on the streets and sidewalks, so our outing consisted of going to the corner pub to hear a friend's country band. The music was so-so, but it was good to see so many friends. There were twelve of us in all. |

We went to Wroxham (Norfolk Broads) yesterday; I've never seen so many swans waddling about on the quayside by the river. Brilliant sunshine, people all smiley and cheerful. Simple days out like that really lift the spirits don't they? And the Sale at Roys was exactly as it always has been for the last thirty five years, everyone buying half-price Christmas cards and decorations. I find I can't face another bit of tinsel, but some folk were grabbing it so triumphantly, it always makes me smile. We find little pleasures to pass the dark winter days. |

The OP minded me of how my father taught me to ride a bike. He ran and pushed me as fast as he could and shoved me forward with gusto at the end of the run. On grass... he was all about safety. |

I do so love the panto, and always shout out "Oh no it isn't!" etc with the best of them. How fascinating that your son's the manager at St George's Yarmouth.
