What I hear (or don't hear):

I'm gonna work til my days are gone
I'm gonna work til my days are gone
Be free from sorrow
May not be no tomorrow
I'm gonna work til my days are gone

I'm gonna sing til my days are gone
I'm gonna sing til my days are gone
Be free from sorrow
May not be no tomorrow
I'm gonna sing til my days are gone

I think that mystery third verse is in French. I think lines 1, 2, and 5 are something like:

Je veux chanter jusqu'à ce que j'aie ferme les yeux. [or possibly "mes yeux"]

[I want to sing until I have closed my eyes.]

Jim, you da man!

In light of what you've said, I think the whole stanza's in French.

I've messed with the translation a bit to fit what I'm hearing, but I think it could use some fixing:

être libre de la douleur, être libre pas lendemain

By the way, Snooky Pryor & Mel Brown perform "WORK TIL MY DAYS ARE GONE" on their album "Double Shot!" (2000). Authorship is credited to James Edward Pryor (which I'm guessing is Snooky's real name).

The same recording (I think) is on a sampler album: "Maximum Mojo: Electro-Fi Records 10th Anniversary Collection" (2007), except there it's called "WORK 'TIL MY DAYS ARE DONE." (He clearly sings "gone" though.)

He doesn't sing the French verse, though.

AllMusic.com has a few variations on the title:

WORK UNTIL MY DAYS ARE DONE by the Original Northernaires.

WORK UNTIL MY DAY IS DONE by Betty R Woods

WORKING 'TIL THE DAY IS DONE by Dynamic Dixie Travelers

I haven't heard those recordings, though, so I can't attest that they are the same song.
