'Laptop' concert Wednesday - Dave Ruch

I'll be doing a "laptop" concert on Wednesday night, January 22 at 8pm EST, live from my home in Buffalo NY.

I hope some Mudcatters can join me from wherever in the world you are.

I'll be playing songs from my research into New York State's "heritage" folk music and traditional musicians - PLUS - I can take requests, answer any questions, and chat with you in real time (your typed comments appear on my screen).

This is a live event and will not be recorded or archived anywhere. Let's see how it works!

Tickets are on sale now, and it's "pay what you will"...you set the price (as low as $1).

Looking forward to the fun,
Dave

PS - feel free to make requests here, or there.

Sounds interesting, Dave - I must calculate the difference between EST and GMT...

According to my Atomic Clock website, EST is 5 hours behind GMT - so we're looking at 1am over here. Black coffees for me beforehand.

One of my favorite fiddlers, not counting people like Isaac Stern, is Larry Older (Middle Grove NY.) As I will not have to drink coffee to stay awake, I will certainly tune in.

GUEST - if you haven't seen the AdirondackMusic.org website yet, there's a page here dedicated to Lawrence Older's fiddle playing, with several audio samples, etc.

Elmore and GUEST - it'll be great to have you join in. Make sure to say hello in the comments box.

Great show Dave. Please do more of these. It means a lot to this old Yankee who'll be in the middle of Nowhere, Ga. for the duration.

Dave, I think you should do another of these laptop concerts, and another and another. I promise next time to be a better tipper. I think you should tell us about your experience. What went wrong in the beginning and how did you fix it? How much help do you get from C.W.? I gather it's helpful to have a family member listening in. Must this person be in another room? If you had wanted to could you have sung on for another 15 minutes? Did you have a good time? Do you know where your listeners listened? If so, were there any foreigners? What was your internet upload speed? Thanks

An interesting concept, and a promising idea. THe idea that people might be willing to pay for something on the internet is a radical one.
And the concert was jes' fine.

Thanks all. Concert Window was/is great to work with. They even did a telephone call "soundcheck" with me at 4:30pm. Everything was working fine then, but apparently I needed to refresh my screen right before start time in order to get the mic back online. That accounts for the video-but-no-audio first minute or so of the broadcast. Once I refreshed and the computer recogniZed the mic input again, I had sound, but forgot to hit the "Broadcast Now" button again, so I played for a couple of minutes where everything looked fine on my end but all you could see was the curtain. Once I hit "Broadcast Now" again, everything was fine. There were people in several countries listening, but I only know that because I know the people involved. They do tell you how many people are listening and their names, but not their location. Internet upload speed was about 4.5 or 5.

Did I have fun? There will be a learning curve for sure, at least for me. I was fairly distracted by a combination of concerns about the tech issues and a scrolling screen of people's comments which went by too fast for me to see. And yes, I did have fun. I think it has real promise.
