Much the same as always for me. I suppose there have been times when it was slower but it certainly isn't breaking any records at the moment.

Still, it seems quite good, better than in several months.

Sorry I said anything. Now it's slow again...

I am afraid it is still slow on the other side of the pond. We shouldn't blame Max. It is probably not his fault....

Fault? I have always been very thankful Max has managed to devote so much time and resources to keep Mudcat afloat all these years.

It seems about the same to me -- slow coming up, retrieving threads, performing searches. Worth the wait, or I wouldn't be here.

Nope. Not fer me. Slooooooooooowwwwww & often gives the 503 error when it hangs too long. I either never got a faster-phase, or else missed it.

After a couple of long waits for other threads, I thought I'd time this one. It came up in 2 s! So I tried it again: 19 s.

Max has installed a new server, but there are some bugs to be worked out. One bug is that duplicate posts and duplicate threads can be created, and sometimes tenfold threads. Then what happens is that some helpful Mudcatter comes on and tells the duplicate originator not to post duplicates.

Please be aware that most duplicate posts and duplicate threads are created involuntarily. Your advice serves only to make you look foolish.

"tenfold"? Think my record is about four!

Certainly faster in general at the moment - I'll be drinking less coffee, I reckon.

Well done.

Oh, I did wonder at the 10x over thread, but certainly would not wish to appear foolish!
Thanks to Max.
Speed surely also depends on your ISP? Now on fast cable broadband, not like the old days of wearisome dial-up! But even that fluctuates by time of day or in-house traffic (when son comes round with smartphone and laptop both running while Dad is trying to watch live streaming rugby....)

Much better now... I saw the tenfold thingy and figured some glitch like that had happened.

A VERY welcome new development, which will probably encourage more participation.

Thanx Max !

Perhaps the concept of fast is different in US than in other parts of world?

25 Mar 14 - 01:30 PM (#3612708)
Subject: RE: Tech: Mudcat FAST?
From: Max

Not sure about that Mr. Happy, but I can say that mudcat.org is bound by a different concept of fast than other web sites.

95% or more of sites use a form of caching to handle heavy traffic and load times. Caching is like saving a copy of something and having it poised and ready to deliver in an instant. Due to the nature of our real-time conversation and thread list being loaded to see if anything is new each second, we cannot use caching.

Each page view on our site is essentially a search of almost 3.5 million messages on about 100,000 topics we've collected and become in our 19 years. It takes our servers 2 to 4 seconds to process each request, of which we get an average of 75 per second.

I am sorry if a few seconds is too long for any of you to wait for a specific piece of what took us 19 years to collect and organize.

I will consider reducing the price of this service to compensate you for your dissatisfaction.

Oh wait...

I got this message in a PM from somebody today. Anybody have anything this person can check?
Hi Joe, having trouble logging on. Whenever the site comes up, it immediately freezes and I have to restart my computer.
All other internet sites are working OK.
Has there been a block been put on?

How does one send a PM within a web site if their computer freezes whenever they try to login to it?
