From: Stilly River Sage In its own special way this thread is the equal and opposite of Songwronger's various How Many Ways to Hate Obama threads. Just a thought, but if this topic could either be added as a continuation of an existing contentious thread, instead of starting a new one, as I would also hope Songwronger would do with his obnoxious topics, we might end up with a more civil environment here. Just a thought, mind you. SRS |

10 Feb 14 - 03:04 PM (#3600149) Subject: RE: BS: More fodder for birthers... From: Jack the Sailor I think I understand your point of view and share your desire for more civility. I thought about some of that before I opened the thread and here's what went through my mind. I don't intend it as an equal and opposite reaction to songwronger's threads. I intend it to be a humorous thread with a link to the Huffington post reporting that Scott Walker said an outrageous thing. I don't even mean it to be particularly political it is not as if anyone here, including songwronger is a supporter of or voter for Scott Walker. Songwronger does two things that I object to. He rudely (and I think purposely) disrespects the Office of the President of the United States by referring to the President of the US by last name only and songwronger deliberately posts outrageous, over the top things in order to provoke people into correcting him. I have been careful to do neither of those things. I used the word "birthers" because there are no birthers on this forum that I know of to offend. I think that we can make a political joke or two and still be civil. I don't mind even if songwronger starts thread to discuss his political differences with President Obama. But he is not doing that. He is posting disrespectful thread titles baiting people with foolish exaggeration and sitting back until things slow down so that he can stir the pot again. |

But I don't thing it is possible to deliberately offend someone while being polite. There are a lot of Bob Dylan fans on this forum. Though I have done it in the distant past, it would be rude of me start a thread today that implied that Bob sang like a dog in a sack being whipped with a stick. |

11 Feb 14 - 10:46 AM (#3600384) Subject: RE: BS: More fodder for birthers... From: Stilly River Sage I'll give it to you that you chose a source that, while squishy in journalistic terms, many people have heard of. Generally that isn't the case with the yellow journalism that Songwronger comes up with. There is a short but distinct step between birther and tea partier. So keep talking about chihuahuas and you are fine. :) SRS |
