Help- Need interviews about an NYC club.

Subject: Help- Need interviews about an NYC club.
From: GUEST,Olivia Ritchie

I'm currently a sophomore journalism major at NYU, and my most recent assignment is a piece about The Bitter End, a folk music club in New York City's Greenwich Village. Part of the story will compare the club at its inception to how it is today by just about any criteria: events, performers, music scene, patrons, vibe, etc.

I was wondering if anyone on this forum went to the club back in the 60's or 70's, or knew of anyone who attended it (regularly or just once, it doesn't matter), or if anyone has the contact info of someone who performed at the club at that time.

If anyone has any information that they believe might be helpful, feel free to respond to this thread, or e-mail me at obr209@nyu.edu

My story is due March 4th, 2014, so the sooner the better. Thank you so much!

Cant remember any details , but I know I performed at open nights in The Bitter End March and April 1974 on my way home to UK from a stint in Bermuda . Always a nice mix of people as I recall .

There is a Mudcat member GVTom who lives in the area and does tours of the village. He's a commercial tour guide who specializes in GV, Ellis Island, The Statue of Liberty and a couple of other areas. I'll out this thread to him. I think he can at least point you in the right direction - he has participated in a couple of documentaries filmed about the area.

I know you are on a time constraint, but I think if you head to the library and give a quick read of autobiographies of some of the performers who appeared there, you could surely come up with their comments. Good luck.

I'm assuming you read this, which ran in the NY Times three days ago.*

You may be able to reach folks quoted in the obit.

*I intend no insult, but my college journalism students rarely read the newspaper, unless required to.

I was in the Village performing from '67 to '76 and hung out at the Bitter End, occasionally played there. Feel free to contact me at
