I know there's already a tune request on here but I've been trying to work out the chords to sing along to and something doesnt sound right.
I'm listening to the recording off of Blow Boys Blow by Maccoll and Lloyd, here is what I have so far:

G                                 Em
While cruising round Yarmouth one day for a spree
G                                  Am
I met a fair damsel the wind blowin free
G                                       Em
I'm a fast going clipper my kind sir said she
G                         Am          Em
I'm ready for cargo my hold is quite free

G                         Em
Singin Falderal laddie I'd falderal day
G                      D    G
Falderal laddie I'd Falderal day

Something doesnt sound quite right, maybe wrong key or something?

Thanks in advance!
Mathew

Since I do not know that particular recording (- it is not on YouTube), I cannot possibly say whether your key is the same as theirs. Worse still, the tune goes around in many variants. The one stored in the MIDI file of the DT seems a bit questionable to me, first of all because it suggests a chorus of four lines. Anyway, it does not seem to be the version you are using.

Our chanty experts are likely to appear soon, presumably to remind us that for utmost authenticity, such songs should not be accompanied at all. If they want to do us more of a service, they may provide "authoritative" versions of the tune in ABC format, preferably with "w:" lyrics of the first stanza. Thanks in advance! We can then discuss about chords for those who want any.

It's in Ab major - no wonder it sounds strange with your chords, unless you use a capo at pos. 1. With this, the chords are

While
G
cruising round Yarmouth one
Em
day for a spree

G
met a fair damsel the wind blowin
D
free

I'm a
G
fast going clipper my
Em
kind sir said she

I'm
G
ready for cargo my hold is quite free

Singin
G
Falderal laddie I'd
Em
falderal day

G
Falderal laddie I'd
D
Falderal
G
day

Still waiting for an expert to point us to a better tune for the DT, or a discussion of the various versions.
