18 Mar 14 - 02:53 AM (#3610495) Subject: mid-70's LA coffeehouse, Highland Ave From: Irthlingz Circa 1975-1978 (approx.) there was a coffeehouse in Hollywood, on Highland Avenue, on the west side of the street, probably near Franklin. It was run by a gentleman by the name of Skip (don't recall his last name). Performers were mostly folk-oriented singer-songwriters, and included Mike Rambol and the duo Berman and Silver (Mark Silver and Alan Berman). Gary Schwartz, a mime, also did his act there. Others I believe may have also performed there include: Belinda Carlisle (later of The GoGo's) and Tito Larriva (later of the Plugz). I am trying to remember the name of this coffeehouse. I'm thinking the mudcat crowd just might contain someone who frequented it during its brief existence. If so, please help me out! Thanks. |
