Tech: Thanks Canon for crashing my PC

Bought a Canon camcorder. Installed (??) the software. My alternate PC running Vista, which is supported, is screwed. Can't even use a mouse to restore. Sony was shite. Canon is worse.

So, what kind of camcorder do you use?

I have had a Canon Legria HF R16 for a number of years now.

The memsahib has had a couple of Canon point and press cameras, both of which are still in occasional use with good results.

Never had a problem so can only think that your difficulties are merely coincidental.

Not being an apologist for Canon, just reporting facts.

Vista would be the highest on my list of suspects.

Long time user of Canon products. Never a problem.

Did you disable security before trying installation? Have you removed old camcorder programs before installation?

Do you know how to do a system restore? Try turning it off, then back on, and as soon as the screen has any activity use the F8 key - keep mashing it until safe mode starts. Then do system restore.

Vista Safe Mode. It looks like system restore was around in Vista - though why you're still using Vista is beyond me!

Could be that your antique system might not support some new installations (stated in ignorance- don't have Vista).

Yup and yup. I got it back. The PC is fine now but I didn't need the stress. The worst part was when Canon said the serial number on my camera was 'nope' and one of the installation disks showed 'empty'. I paid for it and that IS the serial number. That's when the trouble started. The seller? No. You opened the software package so YOU have to deal with Canon. No refund or exchange. I shall wait another few days and contact Canon as I am preparing for a Nor'easter that the weather terrorists tell me I may not survive... in fact, if you have any friends or relatives in Atlantic Canada, please tell them you love them before the winter hurricane... the weather bomb... the bullshit chokes them with the stench of ratings for advertising revenues.... Dog help us. Seriously... we have been told a 'bombogenisis" is about to set upon us. Jaysus H! It's just a bit a snow eh?

Stay warm and keep safe, gnu. Do you have plenty of beer on hand in case you are snowed in?

Thank you, Sandra. The weather forecast for New England and the Maritimes does not sound good. "blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility"   The temp right now doesn't sound too bad - -4 C or 24 F.

I see Mudflap has had an update.

What has happened to Dick Miles?

Well, come on, this thread is going absolutely nowhere and yet is still extant.

leeneia... silly question. >;-)

The storm was only 40cm of snow and gusts to 100kph. Pffft! Just a fart in a coop (yeah, that's mine) but the weather terrorists get paid based on ratings eh?

So. I used the Vista PC for some pic/vid/file editing over the last few days. I fired up the Vista today to use an Adobe program and what do I see next to the desktop Adobe shortcut? Three Pixela icons. I clicked one re product registration and Firefox said 'you don't wanna click this' and there was a Firefox clicky that said 'get me outta here quick' so I deleted all of that. I shall hook up the camcorder and see what happens.

Sorry for not reporting what apparently some have anxiously awaiting but snow doth not go on it's own and arthritis doth not help at all. Matter of fact, it's snowing again right now.

Hope you get it on the straight and narrow.

Snow here too, deep in the Foothills 30 miles west at my daughter's but thin here. No signs of spring yet. She hasn't seen any bluebird scouts (the males) checking out nest sites before the females return, and usually they are here by now.

At Fernie, where a son lives, there are 360cm on the ski area above his house. His Bobcat with plow is doing a lot of work keeping his road clear.

Q buddy. 3.6m is a goodly amount of accumulation! I hope your last two posts don't signal whiteout conditions. >;-)

No, 360cm at Fernie is normal, it's a skiers paradise.

Is Vista from 2007 antiquarian technology now? How stupid can we be accepting an idea like that?

It works! Pics and vids have been uploaded to my PC and I'll see about editing and such, including importing to Adobe Elements, at a later date. Anybody wanna see a video of an icicle dripping water drops in the wind? Huh? Whaddya mean 'piss off'?

But golly gee whizikers, Batman, why all the aggravation just to load some software? And, really now, why did I have to enter the serial number of the camcorder? Was Interpol gonna check the world databases to see if a camcorder was stolen or sommat? GeezeOH eh?
