Great rendition, and isn't it lovely to get what you wished for and not be disappointed?

I see that Mary Black's rendition of this song has had over 90,000 hits, but Nic, a far greater artist, will be lucky to reach a 1,000!
Crazy world!

Oh come on, give it time Tunesmith! That's 155 hits in 2 DAYS for Nic, 90,000+ in 4 and a half YEARS for Mary. There is a huge amount of interest currently in Nic Jones, especially with his miraculous return to live performing. I missed out on him first time round and I think there are a whole lot of people who are confirmed fans, as well as people like me who are just discovering his music.
And Mary Black: a great artist in her own right.
Let's wait and see?

I don't think so!
How many Mudcatters will not have heard Nic's version of "Annachie Gordon?" Remembering that's it's not available on cd.
Now, they have the opportunity, but in two days hardly anyone has commented on the recording.

Lots of people view recordings without ever commenting on them: that doesn't prove lack of interest. It was on his 1977 album, The Noah's Ark Trap: maybe not yet on CD, even if Amazon is saying they have it but are out of stock!!
And I think it has been said that many subsequent recordings of the same song owe a lot, stylistically, to Nic's version.
The recent TV programme about Nic and his return to performing have certainly generated a lot of interest. I have seen him twice at Sidmouth Folk Week, when he played to a packed out concert each time. The emotion was palpable.
As I said, give it time!

Well, there are lots of "cover" versions of the song on Youtube, but the vast majority cite Loreena Mckennitt and/or Mary Black as their inspiration.
I still feel that Nic should receive some financial reward for any commercial recordings of the song that clearly stem from his version ( and they all do!)

Debatable, She does not handle that song as well as Nic Jones.

I am one of those who watches YouTube and other videos and listens to SoundCloud and other audios without commenting. I also don't bother to click to indicate that I like or don't like (thumbs up/thumbs down) something I've watched or heard--except on Facebook. One way to get lots of listeners for that video is to Share it on Facebook. Hmm. Good idea. I think I'll do that now, but it can't be just me who does that because I have chosen to keep my number of Facebook Friends low and my privacy settings are such that my Facebook Friends won't be able to Share directly from my Facebook page. They would have to Share from the YouTube video page. So go ahead, do it! Of course that means we will probably all get counted again as viewers of the video! And some viewers of Mary Black's video may have gone to it many times, too.

First, thanks to Tunesmith for posting the link. I might or might not have found the video otherwise. Usually when I go on YouTube in search of a specific video, I end up watching a good few others. I may not agree with his predictions of viewing statistics or assessment of Mary Black, but let's agree to differ rather than use snappy put-downs. And it's not only Mudcatters who use YouTube.

Second, same thought had crossed my mind, ChanteyLass, re the power of "social media". There are a huge number of folk-related groups or pages where the video link could be shared with subscribers other than just one's own Facebook friends. Let's do it!

Which I believe he collected from Joe Rae of Beith

Well, Nic has clearly reworked the song, and I've no doubt that Nic's "reworking" gives the song its wide appeal.
I am still concerned that Loreena McKennitt can " get away" with perfoming Nic's version and calling it traditional with no credit given to Nic.
If Martin Carthy received a nice sum of money for his "arrangement" of "Scarborough Fair", then Nic should receive compensation for Annachie Gordon".
Of course, this is the second time that a singer, who sells albums in the millions, hasn't acknowledge Nic's considerable input.

Well, here is what is said about the origins of the song on Wikipedia: don't know who wrote the entry. Diva, I have heard Joe Rae singing the older version.
More to the point is the Mary Black video being described as "my favourite Irish song": another one to add to the long list of other "Irish songs".
In the TV programme about Nic, there was some mention of how he changed some songs to suit himself better, and probably many singers do this. But if he didn't copyright his arrangement, then there may be no royalties.
