10 Apr 14 - 03:58 AM (#3617146) Subject: RE: Alan Bell's 80th Birthday From: Dave the Gnome Is there any truth in the story that during one of the early Fylde Festivals Alan was so stressed that he took a ferry to the Isle of Mann and back to avoid people pestering him? I would love to believe it. But in any case, happy birthday, Alan. Cheers Dave the Gnome |
10 Apr 14 - 06:18 AM (#3617179) Subject: RE: Alan Bell's 80th Birthday From: Sailor Ron Dave, unfortunatly it's an urban myth, pity! When we did 'the River Wyre Walk' [that led to the 1st Fylde], Alan annouced that 100 or so had walked down the Wyre for the R.N.l.I., a voice from the back cried "no Alan, we walked down the banks, you walked on the Wyre!" |

12 Apr 14 - 04:27 PM (#3617990) Subject: RE: Alan Bell's 80th Birthday From: GUEST,Stuart Reed Sadly, I've never met him but he was most understanding when I had to apologise to him back in the 60s after three of us got together to sing in Brighton and called ourselves The Taverners, shamefully unaware of the existence of his hugely popular band of the same name in Blackpool. He was most amicable and wished us fledgling upstarts all the best. Thereafter we appended our home town to our name. Hats off to this excellent songwriter and stalwart of music in the north west and beyond. |
