Adapted, edited, arranged, verses 3,5 © 2014 Susan O. Hinton for The Good News-Goodtime Band. 1. Someday, I'll go to that far-off shore Across the river from here. I'll live in sunshine forevermore, Across the river from here. REFRAIN Across the river from here I'll go, Across the river from here! I'll stand beside Him someday, I know, Across the river from here. 2. My home awaits in a mansion fair* Across the river from here. To reach that gate I must climb that stair Across the river from here. 3. I taste the air that is pure and sweet Across the river from here. It soon will carry me, friends to meet Across the river from here. 4. I'll leave my treasures on earth behind Across the river from here. I know new treasures up there I'll find Across the river from here. 5. And when I go on that lovely ride Across the river from here. I'll look below as your steps, He guides, Across the river from here. *original lyric for this line: My home will be in that mansion fair SH |

Howard Doane, 1869 Arr. Mrs. Bertie Andrews, 1907 Lyrics: Mrs. Mary Ann Kidder, 1869 Meter: 8s,7s Double (8,7,8,7,8,7,8,7) Only just across the river, Over on the other side, Where the angels are in waiting, And the pure in heart abide; Where there is no pain or sorrow To intrude on heav'nly rest, Only just across the river, Stand the mansions of the blest. Refrain: Only just across the river, Where the saints are passing over, Only just across the river, Over on the other side. Only just across the river, Are the friends we loved below, Clad in pure and spotless garments, That are whiter than the snow; They have brav'd cold Jordan's billows, And have pass'd thro' death's alarms, And are safe, forever safe,, Within the Savior's loving arms. Only just across the river, Where the hills of glory shine, There the pearly gates stand open Wide, that leads to joy divine; There the tree of life is blooming, And the living waters glide, Only just across the river, Over on the other side. Only just across the river, Are the robes of spotless white; Only just across the river Are the crowns of glory bright; And the saints and angels joining In the songs of one accord, Only just across the river Sing the praises of the Lord. Song arranged from James R. Graves' 1890 Little Seraph, by Miss Andrews. http://resources.texasfasola.org/index/poetry/483.html |

13 May 14 - 08:34 AM (#3625711) Subject: HEAVEN'S BRIGHT SHORE (Bluegrass/Krauss) From: wysiwyg HEAVEN'S BRIGHT SHORE Attributed to A. Kennedy and Alison Krauss* Learned from the singing of The Thomas Family Band on "The Condition of Your Heart*" (Also recorded by Alison Krauss and Union Station) Adapted, edited, arranged, v. 5 © 2014 Susan O. Hinton for The Good News-Goodtime Band. 1. Out on the hills of Glory Land So happy and free at God's right hand They tell of a place of marvelous Grace On Heaven's bright shore. REFRAIN On Heaven's bright shore (on Heaven's bright shore) There'll be no more dying (over there) Not one more grave*@* (not one little grave) In all that fair land (that wonderful land) Not even a tear will dim the eye, And no one up there will say goodbye, Just singing His praise through endless days On Heaven's bright shore (on Heaven's bright shore). **2. The pilgrims on earth someday will go To live in that home for evermore-- Trusting in Him who died for sin And rose from the grave. 2. When I must cross*** that rolling tide, There'll be someone on the other side Welcoming me to that fair land Made perfect by Love. 4. And when I walk up*** that milky white way I'll see that homecoming band in array. How great it must be for the angels to see A pilgrim reach home! 5. For as we are told, one soul that is lost Is precious, its worth of marvelous cost. Gathered to home we surely will be On Heaven's bright shore. ===== ARRANGEMENT (Verse) Pilgrims on [C]earth some day will go To live in that home for evermore Trusting in Him who [Am]died for [G]sin And rose from the [C]grave[F][C] (Refrain) On Heaven's bright shore (on Heavens's bright shore) There's gonna be no more dyin (over there) Not one little grave (not one little grave) In all that fair [G]land (that [D]wonderful [G]land) Not even a [C]tear will dim the eye And no one up there will say goodbye Just singing His praise through [Am]endless [G]days On Heaven's bright [C]shore (on [F]Heaven's bright [C]shore) * The CD from which I learned this carried no author attribution which may mean that in bluegrass circles it is now considered "traditional." On various websites authors are listed as Kennedy and Krauss. The lyric was specified as Krauss' so presumably Kennedy created the tune. *@* Also sung "not one little grave" ** In the version I heard, verses are combined (i.e. 1&2=v.1). For congregational singing, I split them up and added one. *** In some versions, both verses are sung "walk up" SH |
