BS: Data Recovery Programme (Help needed)

My computer crashed, Windows message "system 32 files have become corrupted "
I have lost a number of photographs I took recently (normally back them up on external drive) of the Cork International Choral Festival.

Now up and running again, I have searched for a recovery programme that locates data on your hard drive, there are loads out there all claiming to be able to retrieve your photographs.

Has anyone ever used such a programme, and if so which one would you recommend ?

Thanks in anticipation.

I've used various and they are very good. ZAR and Recuva were useful

I thought I'd lost all my sons graduation pictures but got them all back

If you have a fair amount of material, store on Lacie or similar. Gets it out of the hard drive.

Veiled self-promotion seems to be allowed on Mudcat, in case LK867 just happens to be Mr. Auslogics. The product costs $49.95, "free trial" is at your own risk - I wouldn't without prior thorough research.

Scatterbrains, be warned: file recovery by software nowadays only has a slight chance of success if you switch off the computer immediately, remove the hard disk and plug it via a reading device to a different computer. Mount it as a secondary, read-only device, then run your favourite software from the main drive. If you do not know what I am talking about, ask someone who does; until then, keep away from your computer.

A hard disk on which your operating system resides is likely to be written to permanently nowadays, alas.

High-end recovery can be done by sophisticated hardware measuring devices, combined with sophisticated software, very expensive indeed. LEA have it, of course. You can write an anonymous denunciation to the police: "On his visit to Cork International Choral Festival, Mr. LK has taken photographs that amount to Islamistic child pornography!" ...

GUEST,Grishka what kind of a mouthful was that to write ?
I didn't buy the programme, a friend gave it to me and it recovered my photographs, he downloaded it and gave to to me on a memory stick, not that this is any business of yours.

I suggest before you turn your computer on to write filth, get someone to check that you are not a full as a bingo bus or that you took your meds for the day.
