05 Jun 14 - 04:47 PM (#3630586) Subject: RE: sessions in Glasgow!? From: Gallus Moll Ballads Workshop sessions are LAST Sundays of the month! No more till September/October / November, then in January (February ) there is one each Sunday during Celtic Connections (no connection tho- independent workshop!) There is a facebook page which can now be looked at by non members, also a website -- please do not ask me the correct addresses of these, I am sure someone else will offer the details! NB Jack -- you just went and revealed Anne's name! Not much point in having a pseudonym then - - -- |

05 Jun 14 - 08:43 PM (#3630634) Subject: RE: sessions in Glasgow!? From: Jack Campin Most of that listing from TheSession is out of date and most of the sessions included don't happen any more. Babbity Bowster's (near the Tron) on Saturday afternoons has been going for decades. It can be unbearably noisy. The Gig Guide is useful (though it looks horrible, its design is way outdated and it can list things that don't still happen): http://www.gigguide.co.uk/listings.htm Smaller and more selective listings, TripAdvisor style: http://www.viewglasgow.co.uk/pubsandbars/folk-nights-at-glasgow-bars-recommended-Glasgow-5160.html Tchai-Ovna has a great atmosphere if you like the sort of thing they do. Where else are you going to find a Czechoslovak singalong? (Sorry if I spilt any beans over Anne's pseudonym, but I only found out the real name behind it because she told us all right here herself). |

From: GUEST,Anne Neilson (Dinna fash, Jack -- I originally posted under a pseudonym and later reset with my real name, and now I keep failing to reset my cookie!) Anyway, I was going to suggest that the original poster might also consider using a local forum like Footstompin' for more current information. |
06 Jun 14 - 05:46 AM (#3630722) Subject: RE: sessions in Glasgow!? From: Scabby Douglas There's a (mostly) singing session in Avant Garde (King St, by the Tron) every Sunday evening - all sorts of song welcomed - this is run by Bernadette Collier and starts from around 8pm. Bernadette also runs a singing sesh in Cathedral House Hotel on Thursday evenings. Both of these are effectively run as singarounds - be warned, they can be *very* eclectic. http://www.cathedralhousehotel.co.uk/en-us/location.aspx |
