The San Antonio Express-news reports that Tex-Mex rocker Doug Sahm died yesterday at 58 of an apparent heart attack. I always liked his simple approach to rock 'n roll. I thought he was a very underrated fellow. he will be missed

He will be missed here too. He always went his own way. Whenever it seemed like he had disappeared he would pop up with some incredible music.

The Mendocino album was full of very good Doug Sahmisms. I always loved "She' s About a Mover" when Sir Douglas emerged, but 'Mendocino' particularly had it all - not least the Augie Meyer organ riffs.

I reckon his music was great, particularly the early albums. The writer in the old 'Rolling Stone Record Guide' summed it up well: 'Doug Sahm is a walking encyclopedia of Texas music - blues, country, western swing, vintage rock n' roll, cajun, R&B, even Mexican border music - all of which is melted into a bright, pulsating sound nobody else has ever matched'. Vale Sir Doug.
