Someone on the Fylde(UK) is asking if anyone has access to a mass-spectrometer as he has some samples that he would like to have analysed. I said that I would ask here as you never know with the strange and complicated contacts that the users of our forum have. |

Spectra of the interval desired are necessary. You do not give sufficient information! What type of material, spectrum range comparison desired, preliminary screening needed, etc. For more information, try Advanced Analytical Testing Service, Ontario, CA., or other services; Proteomics Core, Univ. Rochester NY; Kinectus Bioinformatics, Vancouver, Canada; Advanced Analytical Testing, Ontario, CA. Small spectrophotometers start at about $15,000, but those for complex materials can be very expensive. Then adequate software and spectra comparisons also can be very costly. Add the preliminary screening lab, and the bill is way above the home/hobby range, except for the very rich. Add the education needed for the evaluator....... |

Moreover, they will not do random samples of unknown provenance or for questionable purpose, nor will any other reputable lab, commercial or academic. |

Not a particularly good example since the mass spec is not needed for that, but it has been used to help identify area of origin. Moreover, no university wishes to be involved in any effort that might reflect on their standards or impartiality without due consideration. |
