Tune Req: Derwentwater's Farewell

I love this melody and have heard it used by Bobby Watt in "The Girl I Left Behind" and in Garnet Rogers "11:11". I fumble at playing the mandolin and would like the sheet music so that I can play it. I now have a copy of the lyrics to Derwentwater's Farewell, thanks to Mudcat. Can anybody help? Teresa

teresa - you can download the midi from the mudcat, and with the help of a computer program (such as Noteworthy composer) convert it to sheet music. if you are not up to it, it's possible a request to the cat would get someone who would do it for you....

MMario, thanks for the advice. Is there anyone out there who has the capability to do as you suggested? Teresa

Hi Teresa, did you give a listen to the Midi of Derwentwater's Farewell in the database & then give a listen to the many midi's of the Girl I Left Behind (I don't know about Garnet's "11:11") I don't hear any similarities (but that don't mean squat). I've only heard D's.F. done very slow & durge like, Lou Killen did a great 'short' version, in 1978 of this on his "Old Songs, Old Friends" LP on Front Hall records. I fell for this over 20 years ago when I first heard Lou sing it. I believe there's an old thread on this but I don't know how you'd find it. Barry

Teresa,

If you post an email address, I'll be happy to send you the sheet music in a suitable format (gif?)

Hi hi, I seem to recall seeing it on Grit Laskin's first album. Mart.

I have a mid and Child's information on the ballad at Lord Derwentwater's Farewell (http://www.contemplator.com/folk5/derwen.html).

I got the single line melody from a small book named A Jacobite Legacy ISBN 09525305 03 and John did the midi from that.

Ed Pellow, I'm not very knowledgeable about formats and such but does jpeg allow you to send the sheet music? Thanks to all for the very interesting information. Teresa
