11 Jul 14 - 03:48 AM (#3641130) Subject: Singaround in Enfield, North London From: severed-head There is a singaround at The Wonder pub, Batley Road, Enfield EN2 0JG on the last Wednesday of each month. I haven't been yet but intend going on 30th July 2014 with my colleagues from our Shanty Crew. This is not run by a folk club but arranged by the pub. I am expecting the other singers in the singaround to be mostly "blokes with guitars" so I don't know what they will make of our shanty singing. The pub does encourage live music (not the loud, amplified variety) and hosts a honky-tonk piano session most Sunday afternoons from what I can gather. I will post here again after we have been on 30th July. Garry |

31 Jul 14 - 04:20 AM (#3646883) Subject: RE: Singaround in Enfield, North London From: severed-head I am pleased to report we had a great evening at The Wonder last night. Singaround takes place in the bar but everyone seems respectful and listens to the music rather than try to talk over it. Very friendly bunch of people who welcomed us and joined in the shanties whenever they could. Several "blokes with guitars" but also some ukuleles, harmonica, steel guitar, etc. Also a piano in the bar which was used to accompany one of the singers. Well worth a visit if you are in the area, last Wednesday of each month. Next session will be 27th August. |
